SmCity - Twilight
Artist: SmCity
Producer: Best Kept Secret
Album: The Indie Life: Hate, Love & Money
Label: Twenty20 Music
I never would’ve pegged SMCity as a Stephanie Meyer fan, but I guess looks can be deceiving. On his latest feature, a Booth-exclusive world premiere, the DMV native comes out of the closet as a Twilight diehard, rhapsodizing about the eternal love that binds Bella and Edward. OK, OK, before hip-hop heads run screaming, I made that up (except the world premiere part). In reality, this inaugural EP leak is one-hundred percent free of sparkle vampires, instead packing the time-tested combo of dope beats and scorching underground rhymes; Best Kept Secret provides the former, flipping a fresh brass-keyboard groove into a glitzy yet gritty backdrop for SMCity’s chronicles of the hustle. Brooklyn fave (and freestyle alum) Skyzoo takes over on the back, expressing his self-sufficiency by way of some downright dazzling verbiage: “One and the same with no one besides I, so my circle full of winners is mirrors side by side.” Topped off with the hook vocals of Summery rapper/singer Kokayi, this selection should be just the thing to stir up buzz for the May 25, release of City’s Booth-sponsored The Indie Life: Hate, Love & Money EP – the first in a trilogy set to drop over the next six months.

I liked the verses (and richard's summary) but I think the hook could've been better. It would've made the whole song, but i'm still looking forward to the tape.

Production isnt great and the hook doesnt really fit. But I'm loving Skyzoo's verse.

I agree with the other posters, I don't think the hook really fits with the song. The beat is cool, but too sparse for the non-backpacker audience.

It's ok. Tue beat doesn't really match the flows and it sounds jumbled or forced. Skyzoo does his thing and makes the song listenable. The hook is a little off too. This track shows potential, but it falls flat.

The track is solid all over except for the hook, the vocals could have been a bit fuller to round out the sound. Everybody came through and delivered on the verses and Best Kept Secret did his thing on the beat.
