Smash Brothers - Never Shall I Run
Artist: Smash Brothers
Producer: Smash Brothers
Album: Fear Factor
Label: Smash Enterprise
Nintendo’s Super Smash Brothers might have gone by the wayside as more advanced gaming systems have come along, but its impact has certainly left an indelible imprint on modern hip-hop. Just as eager to save hip-hop from itself as their namesake characters were to toss barrels and rescue lost princesses, both members of Brooklyn duo Smash Brothers are creating quite a buzz for their new LP, Fear Factor. On a self-produced track from the project entitled Never Shall I Run, partners Ash Holmz and Classicbeatz announce their arrival and inform us that they’re not going anywhere. Trading stories of their own beginnings in the biz, Ash and Classic dominate the record. For more rhymes fit to rescue rap, check out Fear Factor, in stores now.

Wussup DJ BOOTH COMMUNITY?!? I never heard of smash brothers before but there is a first time for everything I guess...I think the beat sounds a bit elementary and outdated. They have some decent flows; but there isn't anything special that stands out in their lyrics on this track. I just think this is OK...

Y'all remember that Smash Brothers game. That was the ish! Best character was KIRBY! These dudes are decent, but nothing special. They aren't talking about anything new and aren't too original or good to listen to. I'll definitely pass.

Man MC's nerds these days. I was a gamer as a kid just like everyone else, but damn do we have to take it this far fellas? MH is in love with Sonic. XV beats often sound like Video Game Music. This dudes are snatchin their name from Mario? Come on fam. This song is alright though. Not bad, Beat is strong. Rappin is cool. Hook is strong. I say 3.5

The beat doesn't stand out, but I do like their flow. If you listen I guarantee you say "Oh yeahhh..." at least once. BDF I agree totally about the gamer comments you made, but it's too be expected as everyone is trying to stand out from the crowd these days.

Man people can be hard around here, sounds like some good music in todays watered down/ dumbed down marketplace.
Very energetic beat. A head nodder. |

I am jumping on "2GooD Productions" in agreement. This is refreshing. Hook is real solid.
**For all the inspiring artists who bombard our inbox with their unmastered material, take a page out of the Smash Brothers playbook.** |

BDF44, you meant CH right? Charles Hamilton. Not MH. LOL. I stopped playing video games in 11th grade when I started rapping seriously. LOL. I was a Madden and NBA Live cat though!

I don't know about y'all, but Smash Brothers are holding it down! They have they're own sound and as you listen to their album, you can definitely hear the chemistry they have. Those factors alone bypasses 90% of all other cats trying to get they're name heard. The beats are fresh and can really hold a wide ranging audience.
BTW - don't judge a book by its cover. Sure the name ain't as original as yours, but give them a chance. Peace!! -Q |

Peep the whole album! There's something on it for all sectors of the market...even the "dirty south" down here in the A where I live. This is not my fav track on the album but it's better than a lot of shhhh out there.

Yall got so tough you forgot about using imagination in an act. The "Smash" in Smash bros is because they SMASH alot of yalls guhls out here, despite that funny pic up there. This isn't the absolute best song on this album but this is a solid ass album and both the producer and MC's are nice.
If you get a chance cop this album and open your minds, this doesnt have ish to do with Mario and everything to do with taking back hiphop to some solid goodness. Ash is spittin real fire on the songs on this album and beats is bangin!! Cop this is ALOT better than most of the actual corniness out there today! |

I agree with The R and Drama Boi Beatz.
Yo...peep the whole ALBUM! "Fear Factor" And if you're too cheap or lazy to go buy it head to the music myspace page and get "SMASHED"! The title track Fear Factor, in MY opinion is one of the illest tracks blazing underground right now. Everyone is used to this "new age hip pop" Smash Brothers delivers soulful hip hop, that real-isht head knockin vibe that makes you listen. "Never Shall I Run" is nice but it isn't "the best track", so if this ones ok and or a banger how do you think the rest of the album is going to sound? I guess you don't know by now but BROOKLYN gives birth to many successful DOPE EMCEES...nuff said...You heard it here first baby! |
