If Texas were to hold an election for official hip-hop representative, Slim Thug would undoubtedly be one of the front-running candidates. Thus, it’s only appropriate that the Houston icon took the opportunity to welcome those visiting the Lone Star State for last week’s NBA All-Star game (held in Dallas) with a brand new street album. On leaked cut I Rep, Thugga joins forces with a few fellow Southern ambassadors to do just as the title says. The record’s biggest star, Ludacris, is first to stunt over Mr. Lee‘s synth-driven instrumental (complete with a hook sampled from another Texan heavyweight, Bun B), and the headliner follows his ATL amigo’s characteristically dope, if laid-back bars with his own unmistakable brand of car-crazy braggadocio. Rounding out the guest lineup are South Carolina’s Dre Day, who showcases his sung and flowed vocal stylings as he takes listeners on tour of “Promethazine City,” and up-and-coming emcee Kez, who brings the record to a close on a cash/ice-centric note. Fans can find more street-ready bangers from Slim Thug and his Southern cohorts on Welcome 2 Texas, available now online.

This is real southern music. I had almost forgotten what it was like in the wake of Gucci, Soulja Boy and friends. Dre Day's verse was unimpressive and Kez didn't add much but Slim Thug, Luda, Bun B, and Mr. Lee were enough to make this a banger. Keep makin good music.

This is very average to me. Each verse is better than the one before it and by the end you don't come away satisfied. I am not going to hate, though, because this was just a throwaway mixtape track (as opposed to a single selection, where I am much more critical).

If it wasn't for the Luda guest spot this song would have no business even being talked about

I would have been happy if this song ended after the slim thug verse, unfortunately it doesnt.

Lupe's verse reminded me of a Southern fried version of his guest verse on Ciara's "Oh", super rhythmic. Anyway, this is that Houston hip-hop that light the world on fire a few years ago. If you're in the right mood, or on syrup, there's nothing better.

Is it too much to ask for a LITTLE creative originality on the track? Luda isn't strong enough to put this weak track on his shoulders.

luda came hard but the rest of the song was rather disappointing. the bun b sample was alright actually but slim thug was not good to listen to. like z said- its good this is only a mixtape track, not a single.

I liked this, I think all rappers did well. Not good enough to make a classic, but still a solid song.

It's not a bad song, but it drags on a little too long for its own good. On a second thought, even if the song might have ended after Slim Thug's verse, it would not have changed my rating. Rotation-Stuff.

Slim Thug's Boss of all Bosses, KRAZY beatz, AVERAGE flowz. I run, Smile, Thug etc. Where all straight Bangers, but then alotta of the tracks where juz lacking the energy... In this case, I wrekin' the beat could use some energy too

It's AMAZING what a Ludacris FEATURE can do for a record. JKC sums it up. I hit NEXT on my iPod at the 1:20 mark.

If any songs screams out "Chop and Screw me!" this would be it. Having lived in Houston for a number of years I can appreciate the style. Slim does on this song what few artist are capable of doing...holding their own on a song with Luda.

BUN B is the MAN! I love how they used his voice for the sample on the Hook. The production is CRAZY HOT! Ludacris IS BACK (not that he ever left because his last album was HOT). Luda Hurt the beat with his wordplay and flow.

I love listening to this song drivin around on the subs it turns heads and sounds good, what I love. Ludacris absolutely kills it, and the rapper Kez was good I actually liked his verse and I never heard of him before.
