The Slauson Boyz - Stayin Alive
Artist: The Slauson Boyz
Producer: 1500 or Nothin'
Album: There Goes the Neighborhood (Vol. 1) Mixtape
Label: CInematic Music Group/Uneek Music
Let’s start with what this record is not: Stayin Alive, the latest mixtape leak from Nipsey Hussle-fronted crew Slauson Boyz, is in no way, shape or form inspired by the Bee-Gees’ disco standard of the same name – and thank God for that. What it is (besides being an exclusive world premiere!) is something considerably more fresh and creative. Here, a dark, synth-driven groove by 1500 or Nothin chugs away in the background as Hussle, H60dsta Rob, Cobby $upreme, and Cuzzy Capone look back on their day-to-day struggles to survive in the inner-city streets. Fortunately, the crew’s musical talents allowed them to escape from the block and make a living in the music game; as Nipsey retells it, “I told my n*ggas that it’s time to put the rocks down / we opened studios up, shut the spots down / now every n*gga on my block is getting’ gwop now.” Complete with the soulfully gritty hook vocals of J Blacc, this street-certified cut should whet fans’ appetites for the Slauson Boyz’ There Goes The Neighborhood (Vol. 1) mixtape, set to drop on July 19.

I've never been a big fan of rappers putting their crews on, but Nipsey's gang bangs (and I am talking metaphorically, musically speaking ha). Like Richard (see above), I was afraid that we'd get some well-intentioned, but poorly-executed remake of the Bee Gees classic. Luckily for us all, this Stayin Alive stands on its own two and only shares a song title.

This song is incredible in both aspects of rapping and singing. The opening introduction/hook set the stage for a track that I honestly did not want to end. Verse after verse, hook after hook, this was a solid track all the way through. Production has that smooth west coast vibe and is a big plus.
Nipsey has some serious talented emcees on his hands. Overall, the best part of the track for me was the hook, but by all means, this track could have thrived off of the verses alone. Banger! |

This is a pleasant surprise. Nice follow up to "G.R.I.N.D." for 1500, but the real strength of this is the harmonic chorus. Who would've thought.

Man what an intro! Pure Fire!! Love a lil Nipsey Hussle :p Really feeling the beat. 1500 really knows how to bring it!! Don't really know the other artists but they brang it. Man a remix of this would be absolutely nuts.

I was nodding my head through the whole song... This is a classic. You don't even have to hear the lyrics and you enjoy the song.

Damn, Nipsey and his gang sounded good on this. Liking the west coast feel to the beat, and their flows.

Im feeling this. Always feeling 1500's production. I'm a fan of the rapper putting the crew on (when they're not horrible that is) like crews of the late 90's Flipmode squad, Nelly and the St. Lunatics, and the list goes on. Also glad there was NO BeeGees sample there. Again great production, great verses. Gets 4 stars from me.

I'll be honest, I was kinda hoping for a remake of the classic lol
Beat is off the hook, the hook is surprising hot and of course, the Slauson Boyz keep up the West coast takeover started by Nipsey ;) Classic |

Definitely more melodic than i would have ever expected. Perhaps the new west has a little bit more soul than everyone thought.
