Slaughterhouse - The One
Artist: Slaughterhouse
Producer: DJ Khalil
Album: Slaughterhouse
Label: Shady/Interscope
Since Joe Budden, Royce Da 5’9”, Crooked I, and Joell Ortiz first formed Slaughterhouse, heads across the ‘net have been locking horns over whether or not the lyrical bruisers could (or should) translate their underground sensibilities into mainstream success. Now, with the release of the lead single off their forthcoming debut, the moment of truth is here. Is this record The One that will transform the group from buzz to hitmakers? Well, that’s for the listening public to decide—I will say, however, that it’s one of the most concerted efforts at crossover success I’ve heard in quite a while. Featuring a crunchy, DJ Khalil-produced beat reminiscent of Lenny Kravitz’ ‘98 hit Fly Away and a catchy female hook, the record reaches out to several demographics. The group’s trademark two-fisted rhymes are, thankfully, present and accounted for—provided you’re not put off by the relentless torrent of namedrops, there are countless lyrical gems to be found. While it remains to be seen whether The One will hook the mainstream, Slaughterhouse’s self-titled LP is sure to please the early adopters when it drops this August off E1. In the meantime, stay tuned for DJ Z‘s exclusive, behind the scenes video interview with the group, premiering later this week.

If it was possible for these gentlemen to make a record that stays true to their roots, their identity and their styles, while also capturing the attention of the radio programmers with the balls to be taste makers, this is IT.

I'm gonna say what I said at another board. Crooked I is sick man, I swear. He went the hardest on this song. And with Royce, Budden, and Ortiz together they collab really well. I can not wait for the release of this Album, I'll definitely be buying it.

This songs definately grown on me since the beginning of the weekend. Crooked and Joe are the stand outs on this one. I think the only part I don't like is that the sample kind of annoys me.

This is my first time listening to slaughterhouse altogether as a group. I must say these guys have great chemistry together in the studio. They have a better chance of taking the game by storm together than they ever did before. The Rock Beat was sickening and my dude Joe Budden was the best followed by Joell Ortiz.

The first single is always a dangerous proposition. When taken into perspective, one realises that the single is representative of an opportunity to win new audiences and of course the unsavoury possibility of alienating old fans ... I think this One manages to walk that fine line with ease.
The high and low pitched guitar licks on the track combine to make a catchy and bouncy beat ... and Once it kicks in, Slaughterhouse dress to impress, and it shows ... |

Pretty good from the quad flow rippers. But wish the lyrical content was a bit more thought provoking... but i can't complain, gotta like it for what it is.

Production: heavy, guitar-driven beat comes hard. I'll be listening to this in the gym this week.
Lyrics: Ridiculous hook. The verses are nothing short of what I expect from these four. Chances this gets spins here in the fly-over states: Slim |

I feel they are trying to reach outside the market with this one. This is a concept track, not their best in my opinion, however it's will have commercial appeal.

I was waitin for somethin of this caliber from the Slaughterhouse monsters. This get's near-classic from me, rounded up. The crossover appeal is obvious, and it'd be great if this caught on. The hook is catchy, the production is well done, and the lyrics are on point. This is a rock/hip-hop fusion that actually works...very well. Great to see in the midst of all these failed attempts.

Nothing less is expected from both Slaughterhouse and Khalil! But the lyrics could be better, like 808Glenn808 said.
Crooked I's flow was the best, the duo between Budden and Ortiz worked very well. |

Why did they change the "Slaughterhouse" in the beginning, drop the KRS sample from the hook, and not drop the beat out when Crooked I says "here kitty". Minor details, but they made the song much better, in my opinion. Also, why did Crooked I get a tattoo with Slaughterhouse spelled wrong? Lol...
