When it comes to underrated emcees, Skyzoo is a member of an elite class. In the four or five years I’ve been listening to his music, he’s been consistent with lyrical, thought provoking material and working with great producers like 9th Wonder and !llmind. With the release of his upcoming project The Great Debater drawing near, Sky’s been lacing his fans with leaks accompanied by the Twitter (#debateteamtuesdays). If you want solid examples of a man who is clearly trying to best an already impressive catalog, then listen to his two previous #debateteamtuesdays singles The Definitive Prayer and Written In The Drum. This week’s single Test Drive (produced by frequent collaborator !llmind) follows the trend of the first two and if you’ve heard Skyzoo and Illmind’s album, Live From The Tape Deck, then you already know what you’re in for when this duo creates sounds together. The Great Debater drops June 7 on DJBooth, which also happens to be my birthday – I can’t think of a better gift than new and ever-improving Skyzoo.

a really good track, skyzoo is a lyrical heavyweight. personally, I didn't like the instrumental, but I hope it to grow on me in the context of the whole project.
btw is it just me or is he always on point with leaks and promo? just like those Saving Our Grace series before the Salvation came out - dope stuff. and ever since, before any project that he is involved in, he drops some material that gets me hyped. |

It's a good chance if folks don't like lyrics, they won't like Skyzoo or this track. Sucks if you don't like lyrics though.

I first heard Skyzoo as a feature on Little Brothers' track "Speed Racing" and have been a fan ever since. His voice is unique and has a great sound to it and his lyrics aren't too shabby either. Test Drive is just another example of his awesome sound. The beat really fits his voice perfectly. Hopefully, he starts to get the recognition he deserves.

Skyzoo is something else, he always rocks it over great production but I think he's the kind of MC who could rip any beat - underrated definitely but that's fine with me as I'm not ready for him to change things up just yet. I've bought everything he's put on iTunes including the mixtapes, and there are only a handful of artists I can say that about (Mos Def, Blu would be two examples). Lyrically he's always solid, this is a great track, especially for a promotional joint!
