Skyzoo - Floor Seats With Young
Artist: Skyzoo
Producer: Yesterday's New Quintet
Album: Band Practice
Label: The Faculty Inc./ Duck Down Music
Thus far in Skyzoo‘s Band Practice series, the Brooklyn mic-murderer’s brought us nothing but dopeness, earning positive reader reviews for Phone Calls and Grew Up on Kool-Aid. As should surprise absolutely no one, that trend continues with freestyle number three, the newly-released Floor Seats With Young. Once again, Sky draws inspiration from Madlib on the production tip—specifically, the beatsmith’s Yesterday’s New Quintet side-project. Over the ‘group’s muted horns and trippy keys, the artist reflects on what he hopes to accomplish with this hip-hop sh*t, peppering his ruminations with all the clever punchlines and dizzying turns of phrase listeners have come to expect. In addition to tuning in each Tuesday for further Band Practice freestyles, fans in the NYC area should mark their calendars for The Writings of Skyzoo, a concert which will feature the emcee performing a catalog-spanning set backed by a seven-piece jazz ensemble. Click here to purchase tickets to the event, going down February 19, at MIST Harlem.

If it wasn't for an insane week next week, I would fly out to New York for Sky's show on the 19th. This lounge/jazzy sound was made for quality headphones to be best enjoyed.

Good mic-work by Skyzoo. The flow is just good. The beat has a cool 70's vibe to it while still being new.
