Skull Gang - Skull Gang Presents: Rock Starr ft. Lil Wayne & Starr
Artist: Skull Gang
Featuring: Juelz Santana , Lil Wayne
Producer: Minnesota Boys
Album: Skull Gang (Debut Album)
Label: Skull Gang/E1 Music
Over the years, many in hip-hop have expressed the desire to live like a rock star (or at least to party like one) over hard-hitting, guitar-fortified beats. With Rock Starr, however, Juelz Santana and Starr of Skull Gang may have created the least rocking rock star-themed song ever – in fact, it’s actually an R&B-flavored sex jam. Over a sultry, keyboard-driven beat by the Minnesota Boys, Santana plays Bret Michaels, asking the seductive singer to be his Rock of Love. Of course, you can’t mix rock and hip-hop without a certain somebody showing up; Weezy does double-duty on the back end, accompanying himself on electric guitar as he spits his own sexed-up 16 bars - he even tops it off with an incredibly stoned-sounding solo. While the theme may be a little baffling, it definitely makes for a memorable, uniquely catchy cut. Rock Starr will be included on Skull Gang’s self-titled debut, to be released via E1/Skull Gang on the 24th.

This beat was pretty good, but I definitely liked it the most while Starr was singing, so I like it better for an R&B track. I expect a little more from Juelz, and I hope this isn't too much of an indication of what we'll see on his upcoming album. He has much more capacity as a rapper and storyteller than this. Wayne did his thing on the last verse (rapping,) but the electric guitar sounded out of place.
What I actually really wanna see is lil Wayne taking lessons and learning to play the guitar well, anyone can pluck the strings. I think that would be fresh. |

DIPSET!..haha..yooooo,this track is so so damn fiyah..loved that they took the slow route approach with this joint, cause it makes it stand out more..especially when everyone seems to think cause its a song referring to "rock starr",that it has to drop hard and heavy..this joint got that suave swagg feel to it..banger

After Juelz dropped the only good verse of "Pop Champagne" I went through and listened to his past albums I own. I'm glad he's back on the grind putting something new out and it will be interesting to see the direction he heads in without DipSet. This is a good start however, everything on point.

Since I am over my head in work for the new exclusive freestyle series, today is simple feedback day (I am allowed, right?)
Juelz outshines Weezy... Starr was boring... production was nothing special... but yet I played this record four times in a row before deciding to feature. Who knows? Maybe I am sick? |

Not feelin this so much. The beat and the music are kinda good but I'm not feelin them. His flow is boring and the girl in the hook sounds weak, I'd like her to sing more powerfully

Not a really big fan of this, the beat is to slow & none of the artist are all that great on this. I expect big things from Juelz's new album, the guy is a superb rapper.

I heard this a few days ago. It's not bad at all. I can rock with Juelz! His flow is nice as usual. The beat is cool, and the chorus is nice. Lil Wayne hurt this right here! It's very unorthodox which makes it BANG more...and I bet that's him playing the guitar on his verse as well! BANGER!

Wow! This is more Starr's song than anybody else's. I'm not mad at that though. She's on the autotune, but it sound like she can really sing too. I like this production. Minnesota Boys, huh? They have so much going on in this. The electric guitar comes in on Wayne's verse like whattt? Wow! A lil' bit of the production reminded me of Timbaland's stuff he did when he worked w/ Aaliyah. Still hot - and kinda took me back to a place 10+ years ago.
Wayne is so funny to me. I like is lil' verse though. Juelz' verse was cool, it was just real quick. I been missin' on Juelz. Sexy hot vibe. I love it!!! |
