Once a hip-hop group’s members achieve big-name status, it’s only a matter of time before they decide to record solo albums.  That time is rapidly approaching for Kentucky’s best known hip-hop group, the Nappy Roots; though R. Prophet left the group to focus on his solo venture, Skinny DeVille and Fish Scales have remained loyal to the movement while preparing their debut as a duo, 40 Akerz.  The first single, We Out Here, embodies everything we’ve come to love about the Louisville quintet; over Sol Messiah‘s easygoing organ beat, Skinny & Scalez bring their trademark Southern-fried style as they discuss how far they’ve risen (both financially and spiritually) from their origins.  If you enjoy We Out Here, stay tuned to DJBooth.net for plenty more coverage leading up to the summer release of 40 Akerz.

I had no idea they were branching out for a solo album, and I follow NR pretty closely. This is really hot here, a little different sounding from the group but still has that "twang" to it.

This is a solid track. I really respect Nappy Roots for staying away from that hustla/balla/killa southern mentality and just bein who they are, "country boys..." The production is solid, though nothing that really grabs your attention. Both of the Roots do solid with their lyrics and subject matter, and I especially like the second half of the first verse. Solid...

The production is pretty hot and I love that organ sound in the background. Lyrics are on point and the message is good. Hotness!

Since I am over my head in work for the new exclusive freestyle series, today is simple feedback day (I am allowed, right?)

Great soulful vibe... enjoyable production... catchy enough for rotation... radio is another story.

Not bad but this bored me a lil...the production is kinda fresh, it's catchy, but the hook is weak! In rotation
