Skillz - 2009 Wrap Up
Producer: Sound H Production
Album: Promo Single
Label: Big Kiidz/eOne Music
Since 2002 every New Year’s Eve for me has involved three things: the ball dropping in Times Square, consuming a regrettable amount of champagne, and listening to Skillz’ yearly wrap-up (he’s like the Dick Clark of hip-hop). Every December for the past eight years the Virginia-bred Skillz has been putting the year in perspective through rhyme, touching on everything from politics to fashion and, of course, hip-hop. This year’s edition features some cleverly constructed lines from Skillz that includes, in no particular order, Obama’s inauguration, Tiger’s cheating ways, Kanye’s infamous Taylor Swift interruption, the explosion of Twitter, Octomom’s enormous uterus, 50 and Rick Ross’ beef, Bernie Madoff’s multi-billion dollar scam and, of course, Drake’s knee. Produced by Sound H Productions, the 2009 Wrap Up is the perfect way to wave goodbye to one of the craziest years in history before we turn our sights squarely on the new year. Look out for more from Skillz in the coming year, including his 2010 wrap-up - hey, it’s never too early to start.

i always like this guy's rap up's
this had pretty simple rhymes, and a similar beat to last years, but he pretty much covered every subject that should have been covered, i liked last years better i liked the "its sad that a mixtape is the album of the year" line also the balloon boy line, lady gaga one, and the lil mamas big head one were good, also some other good ones in there |

Skillz yearly wrap ups are hip-ho institutions at this point, it's almost hard to rate them individually. The man comes with it so consistently I'm just gonna have to give him four stars, not only for 2009 but for all the years that have come before.
Oh, and I agree with O-Tyme, that Lady Gaga line was the best. |

he just does it with such ease now, don't he... i don't think there's too many rappers that can cleverly & comedically do it quite like him. i just wish he got as much publicity for the rest of his music..."up all night" was a smash last year...

I was ready to click "X" on the tab when i heard the beat, but Skillz won me over with his skills (ironic isnt it haha)but the dude is hilarious and on point, almost every reference was on the money. this track had me dyin from beginning to end. This whole track is very simple but effective and has lyrical substance, I love this track, as far as i know this is on repeat for the rest of the month. I wanna get the lyrics to this joint...freakin damn near classic! If you was in a comma for the last 12 months and woke up to this in 2010 and needed a break down of '09 this is the track they need to turn up the volume up to

For some reason, I was a tad disappointed in the choice of production he decided to go in on for the Wrap-Up. It was cool though. A couple of good lines that I really liked, such as "Rihanna, she kept quiet...until she had an album to sell, but we still ain't buy it." LOL. #PardonMeiHadToLaughAtThat. It was truth though.

This is something that we all always look forward to at the end of the year. And once again the boy Skillz delivers with the year end wrap up sooo effortlessly.
Skillz is not only more pleasant to listen to but shows cleverness and wit in his choice of phrasing and punchlines, by maintaining a purposely simple rhyme structure. The beat is just perfect, nice mellow piano keys with bass-and-drum hits to complement the flow. In my opinion, 2007 Wrap Up is the best one in the series so far. Why? for the same reason @that1kid has mentioned - too much sh!t happened in '09. So it was nearly impossible to cover up all of 'em. But I still fcuks wit him on the sheer fact that he's creative enough to pull it off year after year. CLASSIC! |

This song is hot. It needs to climb the ladder. It kept my interest, made me laugh, feel like crying (about MJ), angry, think, reminisce... all the emotions in one song. The beat was nice too. Not too much going on to take away from his great lyrics and smoothness. It had a *real* HipHop feel. Great job!
