Shontelle‘s debut set, released first in Nov. ‘08 and then re-released in March ‘09, may not have been the breakout success she was hoping for, but don’t think for a second that she’s let that discourage her. Knowing that adaptability is one of the most important elements of intelligence – or Shontelligence, as the case may be – the T-Shirt singer’s followed in the footsteps of a fellow Bajan songstress and adopted a edgier image and sound for her follow-up. Our first taste of Shontelle’s darker side comes in the form of lead single Impossible, which finds the singer picking up the pieces of a shattered relationship. Though the lyrics are fragmented and, frankly, a little confusing (“Thinking all you need is there/ Building faith on love is worst/ Empty promises will wear/ I know, I know…”), Shontelle’s rueful vocals, delivered over Arnthor‘s pensive piano-synth instrumental, provide all the emotional weight this wounded ballad needs. Is this new, more vulnerable persona a good look for Shontelle? You be the jury. In any case, fans should keep it locked for all the latest news and tunes leading up to the spring release of the singer’s sophomore album, No Gravity.

 The whole time I was listening to this, I was thinking about how great it would sound acoustically. It's good to hear Shontelle again...maybe she'll be able to impress a wider audience this time.

Shontelle really showed she can hold her own in the industry with this one. At first, when the production was light, her vocals shined. And when the beat dropped on the second verse, it just made it a hell of a lot better. The hook on here is real nice.

I second everything that's comes before. To me her voice doesn't quite have the power to make this a classic, but it's definitely got hit written all over it, especially when that second verse rolls in.

Vocal performance wasn’t bad or anything like that but it wasn’t that stunning either. A little strained at times, but decent, and the production value seems to be pretty decent too.
Overall, I don’t think is necessarily strong enough to be presented en masse as a single or maybe I just ain't feeling it. |

Wow. I hadn't really heard of Shontelle before now but after hearing this, she can defintely compete with singers like beyonce, rihanna, keri hilson & alicia keys.

This record is incredible! This is the best record I've heard from Shontelle since T-Shirt. This definitely is single material and should allow to compete with some of the heavyweights! I need a download link for this ASAP!

I like her music this is dope too. Her vocals are great on just about everything I hear her on. But I wish she changed her vibe. Sounds like she is trying to go in the lane of Mary J. Blige, but with a twist of Leona Lewis. She is a great singer just I don't know if she can make this into a mainstream success.
