As a guy who couldn’t find his way out of a paper bag without precise, written instructions, I can sympathize with Slip-n-Slide/Def Jam singer Shonie‘s plight on her latest single, which finds her making a simple request of a new love interest: “Please give me directions to your Bedroom.” Aside from the thematic emphasis on navigation, this cut is exactly what you’d expect from an R&B cut with its title – the smooth, piano-led boardwork of producer J. Millz, along with Shonie’s delicately cooed come-ons, add up to a track that won’t disappoint those seeking a steamy soundtrack for future romantic encounters. Will this seductive slow-jam stir up enough excitement to finally get the singer’s debut set, Passionate Pieces of Me, onto store shelves? I’ll let you speculate. In the meantime, fans who haven’t yet should be sure to check out the artist’s DJBooth-hosted Pieces Revealed EP, as well as her exclusive “In the Mix” interview.

It seems like no matter what she does, Shonie cannot turn out a hit single (not something that flutters on the charts for months and never approaches the top 25). Is "Bedroom" that single? I don't think so, but I could be wrong. Its a solid album cut, but as a single it isn't as catchy as it could be. Then again, I listen to so much music these days my standards change by the hour...

I don't see much success with the radio on this track. It sounds far too generic to generate much interest in Shonie's project. The production in particular sounds like every other R&B bedroom burner to come out this past decade; I think it's that damn bubble-popping sound (I believe that's the technical term. haha)

Shonies vocals are definitely solid though. I'll put this in rotation.

Dissatisfied with vocals, but the beat wasn't bad. Everything about this song was ok, but nothing was great either. Nothing to set it apart from sooo many similar songs.

Also, the hook got repetitive, which made the song, which I already thought was boring, even duller. But I gotta admit I thought the beat was nice. Prolly won't listen to this one more than once.

2.5 rounded up.

I don't think Shonnie will ever make it as big as other female RnB singers have. Just not a hit single, but would be a good album song as DJ Z said. She has vocal talent, I will give her that, but she just isn't distinct and not that popular right now. It's a good radio song at most, but won't be a hit song. Good effort though Shonnie we just need more from you.

I feel like this years most overused word is going to be bedroom. I guess we have Trey Songz to blame for that one. I really takes a lot for me to really enjoy an R&B song. To me most of them are just all the same, a soft/slow beat with vocals to match. After a while it just doesn't do it for me, I need something different.

Shonie, unfortunately you did not do anything spectacular on this track. You have a great voice, you really do, but "Bedroom" has everything you would expect from an R&B song including a vocal break down near the end. Its nothing new, nothing great.

Plus the song is kind of funny, you need directions to my bedroom? I'm not sure if I want to be giving out directions to a girl who can't find it on their own. (Yea that was an a** comment but its the first thing I thought of after hearing the song.)

Lol, I thought I was playing "Stingy" by Ginuwine when I turned this on. I love it though, and I liked her past two singles as well.

I could do without the fake phone call intro and her awkward high notes in the second verse. Nothing different form what everyone else has said - good voice but there's nothing here to propel Shonie anywhere.

@ DJ Brookllen: I completely agree with you the bedroom theme is worn out but I think J. Holiday set it up and Trey Songz made the winning shot. Seems like all the rest are taking shots after the buzzer.

I do see what she tryna do but she needs to try again...her vocals are wack, they would sound better on a faster track...maybe...but a slow track you got to come wit it

For a second there when I saw the producer being J. Millz I had to do a double take to make sure it wasn't the rapper Jae Millz cuz that sure would have been a sight to see. However I really ain't feeling this...this sounds like a typical R&B slow jam with the bedroom reference and you could almost mistake her for a male R&B artist the way she sounds. I just don't think this will have the appeal or sound that everyone looks for these days to be a R&B hit.

I could see radio picking up this song. A little too main stream but I'd give her directions.

I feel like this beat would do better for a male RnB singer. Her vocals were nice, but song was kinda boring.

I hear ya @Z. It would not have sounded out of place on her "Pieces Revealed EP". She can ably put together easily likeable above-average album cuts but not just a couple hot singles. At least she's consistent with it. Rotation-Stuff!

I'm big into R&B, but this just was not my type of song. No in-depth review this time, I'm just gonna pass on this one.

Yikes hip hop heads give the r&wannaB; a chance..its typical slow jam music, decent lyrics, nothin amazin but i hear her tryin..but can't deny, this isn't a radio killer but it should be on the playlist..and does every sexy song have to have bubbles sound or whatever that dripping noise is..im sayin

Man, the opening sound got me really excited.

I thought of an updated En Vogue sound. Then comes Shonie's soothing voice. And the song stagnates... unfortunately.

It is just so damn generic. The chorus becomes annoying with repeated reference to the bedroom. Such great potential on the vocal though.

Its a great song, album material but just doesn't have that first single kinda of spark. Will say that she has a sound that is worth hearing more from.

I wanted this song to be better.
I sympathized with the songwriting and vibe of the song.

But the production could use a catchy-gimmick and her singing was inconsistent. I believe it was because she attempted to go "natural" and give more expression to her vocals, but it came up poor.
