D4L front man Shawty Lo famously once said in I’m Da Man that he ”got no wife but da white be my girlfriend.” On the second single from Units In Da City, Lo continues to brag about the street life; you name an aspect and he Dunn Dunn it. As is the norm for D4L material, a repetitive hook and catchy production are what make Dunn Dunn stick in you head. Although you shouldn’t expect much lyrically, two out of three will do in the club. Expect a full disc of certified club bangers when Units In Da City drops on January 15th.
This is weak. His flow killed the beat (literally). I think this guy should stay in the group because him flying solo really sucks.
I think D4L has some label issues & they're no longer with So So Def, at least I think it was them.
dnt like dis one but still luv da otha one. yea d4l still 2getha, as far as new records, i ant heard none. but sbhs, fabo be doin shows n special performances. dat nigga stay doin sumthin....but if u eva see him n person, u be like wow dis nigga crazy as hell. lol he keep da crowd hype tho...nathan, haha nice pun.
Shawty Lo doesn't even wanna be a rapper. Bankhead begged him to rap cuz they know ANYTHING he says is true. Some consider this track to be a diss to T.I. and a few other rappers that claim Bankhead....But nobody in bankhead knows them or ever knew them. Shawty Lo is the TRUTH in Bankhead. So, say whatcha want about his flow...just know that what he says, he's done. Unlike all those other fake ass rappers!
Quote from an interview done right here on this site....
Shawty Lo: Yes, I’m always D4L; it stand for ‘down for life,’ you know what I’m saying? To be honest, I started D4L a long time ago, as a group – I wasn’t never intended to go solo; just my fans in the street demanded a solo project out of me. I really wasn’t ever a rapper, I was just tryin’ to be like Baby with Cash Money, like Puff Daddy – I was just tryin’ to be the man behind the scenes when I first started. I got arrested in 2004, and I got out – let me see – July 2005, right before we put out our album, and “Laffy Taffy.” And I had the song called, “I’m the Man,” that the first solo song I ever did, and the people in the streets, they love it and they like, “Shawty Lo, we wanna hear your story, ‘cause man, we believe you for real. We don’t believe the other rappers.”
I do like the part where he says " I been had cash/ o lord i done found my swag" but the chorus is garbage. It's a shame that line was wasted in this song.
