Here’s an assignment for all you Booth-heads: name your five favorite female rappers. Chances are, nine out of 10 lists will include Shawnna. As one of the few femcees known to match (or exceed) her male collaborators’ skills on the mic, it’s undeniable that this Shorty Got Work. On this new street single, Shawnna works her wiles on two fellow Windy City natives. Twista‘s high-RPM verse, singer Teddie Cain Jr.‘s smooth R&B hook, and B-Crucial‘s boardwork, complete with his trademark 312 hi-hat, add up to a cut with potential to become Chi-town’s late spring/early summer anthem! If you liked the Work Shawnna put in on this record, you’ll be happy to hear that she’s got big plans for the remainder of ‘09; she and Luda plan to drop their Battle of the Sexes album this summer, and fans can look forward to her third solo LP later this year.

Shawnna has probably the most potential of any female rapper right now. Absolutely love her flow on anything she touches, she just needs to be marketed a little better. This flow is fire, and Twista reps it hard. Chorus is a little lame but nonetheless Banger right here!

I normally don't feel Shawnna all that much, but i was diggin her hyper flow on this track. The hook and production are just aight, but Shawnna and Twista steal the show on this track.

Cool vibe on here. She flowed on this production very well. The hook was OK and Twista came hard. Rotation.

Hot track. Shawnna is a beast on the mic no doubt. "Block Music" was a fantastic album and I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't had the pleasure yet. She's one of the few female artists who holds her own against her male counterparts. Oh, and to answer our "assignment"; my top 5 female artists are: Shawnna, Missy Elliott, Lauryn Hill (if we're still counting her; "Miseducation" is one of my all time favorite albums), Lil' Kim and, I guess, Trina.

OH YEAH BABY! I've always been such a big fan of Shawnna's (like most Midwestern hip-hop fans are)...What sets her apart from most other femcees is that when you're listening to one of her verses, you actually feel like you're caught up in this high-powered whirlwind (many others sound listless, but she pulls it off).
Twista was a good look for the guest verse too (RPM, Diddy Rock, and now Shorty Got Work-that's whatcha call a trifecta). Teddie Cain Jr. came correct with the hook too (sounding a bit like Ben One, Jeremih, and some of these other Chi-Town R&B cats). Let us not forget B. Crucial's beat-I could def see Traxster, Xcel, or Ice Drake (Shawnna's brother, produced "Splash Waterfalls" and a few tracks for BXC) making a similar beat (all of which bang!) Normally, this would be a 4, but since I stay so close to there, I'll give it that extra star! Can't wait for that junior album, as well as Battle of the Sexes (both will be BANGERS!) In conclusion...well, I'll let the Boss type it. |

Wait-before the Boss types the conclusion, here's my version of the assignment. Besides Shawnna, the rest of my Top 5 is Da Brat, Foxy Brown, Lady of Rage, and...hmmm...it's a toss-up for me...I'm gonna say Remy Ma here. (Shawnn & Rem been homegirls)

ah this is most definately not a head banger. which i kinda rather hear right now. when i hear her i expect [the beat] to be a lil more uptempo. so i dnt care fer this.

The beat seems a little dull to me its iight. Shawnna comes hard and so does Twista its mainly the production thats not appealing to me

Agree with cb, everyone else fell off. Missy disappeared, foxy brown has been kinda weak, haven't enjoyed lil kims new stuff. Its good for what it is, but I don't think its great in general. Dull beat, twista does just ok, shawna brings the energy but something is lacking.

Shawnna has a tight flow on here ... & Twista delivers on this track ... I like hearing his flow on slow-tempo beats... The hook was not interesting, sounded a little monotone... prod. is straight ... In-Rotation.
My List: Missy, Trina, Kim, Shawnna, Jean Grae |

I'm sorry, but before I say anything on the song, I gotta say, I hate that picture! It makes her look so fat! =/ She's a lot prettier than that picture makes her look. But, that's the fag in me talkin lol.
Aaaaaaanyways, I'm liking this track right here. Production is chill, which is a nice contrast to the fast-paced flows of everyone on here(which I am never opposed to). Shawnna to me sounds a tad like my gurl Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliot. Not a bad thing, though. Missy is the sh*t, and Shawnna pretty high up there too. Banger. |

In my opinion here we have a really cool production, but mediocre flows. I really didn't like any of them, maybe except for Twista...this is only ok to me, it annoyed me
