Heraclitus of Ephesus once said, “A man is most nearly himself when he achieves the seriousness of a child at play,” and the best, most creative rappers exist as living proof of that statement’s veracity. Oh, what’s that? I’m writing a track review, not a high-school English essay? My mistake. On the real, though, my dead Greek homey’s words couldn’t be more applicable to Inglewood emcee Shawn Chrystopher, who celebrates music’s power to make him feel just Like a Kid Again on his latest single (making its world premiere right here in the Booth!). Over Cameron Wallace‘s carefree, piano-led beat, the artist reminisces about the good times he had as a shorty, but acknowledges that his adult life is even more dope: “I used to ride bikes, now I ride trucks / They used to drive by, now they ride with us / All dime pieces, all of them legit / I don’t have to lie; my life’s the f*ckin’ sh*t!” If Like a Kid puts a smile on your face (and I can’t see how it wouldn’t) you can download your own copy from iTunes this Tuesday, February 16. Watch for Chrystopher’s latest EP, The Audition, to hit stores and online retailers March 23.

There is something about Shawn's records that just works. His music honestly makes me feel likes we are homies (which we are), but if we were not - feel me? There is an aura of relatability to him and his music that you cannot deny. Plus, he gets some very dope production work from Mr. Wallace.

Like Z said, you can relate to this guys stuff. I like the direction he takes with his music, taking it seriously but having fun with it. The end result is a tight song.

This is one of those tracks where I knew I was going to bang it after ten seconds. Dope. Nothing more needs to be said.

When it comes to production like this, less is more. The simplicity is part of the appeal and is helps the track to make you feel like a kid again. Shawn Chrystopher sounds good on here and spits some cool lines. Hook could use work, but good overall.

I like this track, but Shawn’s chorus is a little too repetitive, simplistic, and then some. I could have done without the filler "I'm in my Lambo" part, that took it up a notch on the annoying meter for sure.

Joint could have been better if a little more care was put into hook's construction.

his lyrics aren't weak but the hook is. I mean, it could have been better. it sounded like Swizz Beatz wrote it or something.

I'm pretty sure this is the guy that brought us 'heartbreaker'? Coz that was fire, and this is a pattern of flames that just go together like an inferno, lookin' forward to what he comes at us next with..

I with you on this one Nathan. It actually only took me exactly 2 seconds (piano kicks in) to realize this was gonna be that "SH*T" pun intended.
