Fresh off the release of Booth-premiered, reader-acclaimed leak Like a Kid Again, house favorite Shawn Chrystopher is back to remind fans and haters alike that, at the end of the day, he’s simply looking out for numero uno – in his own words: “I did this sh*t for me, and you Can’t Take That From Me.” Be that as it may, the Inglewood native comes with rhymes that just about anyone should be able to appreciate, especially those who enjoy playing spot-the-allusion – Home Alone, Gullah Gullah Island, I Love Lucy and The Matrix are just a few of the many pop-cultural touchstones Chrystopher references over Cameron Wallace‘s sparse, simmering synth instrumental. Not to mention, he drops the line “I won’t stop like a sentence with three commas,” which, as a guy who rarely writes a sentence with fewer than three commas, I found sort of hilarious. Anyway, it’s crystal clear that Shawn Chrystopher’s self-interest is listeners’ gain. For more evidence, check out the rising star’s latest EP, The Audition, when it hits the ‘net March 23.

Shawn's best quality is his ability to cater to the everyday rap fan. When you listen to his music its like your friend is talking to you about his day. Shawn is like the everyman emcee, ya dig?

This bangs. Excited about the new EP.

This joint was pretty cool.

I still couldn't help but see/hear the Kanye nibbling, from the title to the Kanye and Drake popularized elongated pause, originated by Big Sean.

If you can thread a Gullah Gullah Island reference into a track, you're alright by me. Chrys. is a man to keep an eye on, and I can't wait for the EP to drop.

I'm a big Shawn fan (L.A. stand up!) but I have to be honest, this one left me a little cold. Just couldn't connect to it.

@MikeDreams Way to bring the elongated pause reference into it (these b*tches are fake...silicon"). Ha, that's a real inside joke right there.

Well-written rhymes, but both hook and beat does nothing to enhance the replay value of the track.

Haven't been too impressed with him lately and that's hard for me to say cause City With No Seasons was great. All together the song was okay at best IMO.

I literally have loved everything that Shawn Chrystopher has been involved in, especially "Summit at the Sands" off that El Prez Animal Style album (incredible song). This is no different. I am a huge fan.

Didn't capture my ear like "Like A Kid Again" did, but Wallce's production and Chrystopher's verses are better than Just Ok.
