Shawn Chrystopher - All the Other Kids
Artist: Shawn Chrystopher
Producer: Shawn Chrystopher
Album: TBD
Label: Honour Role Music
I’ve noticed DJBooth Freestyle Series alum Shawn Chrystopher, promoting his new single All the Other Kids on Twitter for the past few days now; he even promised to follow everyone who posted a link to it. Frankly, I didn’t really pay attention (I’m not someone whose sole mission in life is to get followers), but now I realize I should’ve looked at Shawn’s tweets more closely. All the Other Kids, impressively produced by Shawn himself, is a fusion of indie rock and laid-back, yet up-tempo hip hop the likes of which we’ve never really heard before. Accompanied by Shawn’s raspy voice and dedicated to all of those who, like him, were picked last at basketball in grade school but are now on top, The Other Kids makes for a great story and an even better single for Shawn Chrys; he blends these elements together with the skill that would impress any alchemist (with a lower-case “a”). Having recently dropped The Audition, Shawn is slowly working toward a new project, the title and release date of which are still up in the air.

Sounds like something Kid Cudi would do. Shawn Chrystopher's flow was nice. The hook could've used some work, but the beat was nice.

Shawn has an immense amount of talent and an insane work ethic. Sometimes these two qualities come together and we can get an amazing song composition. Luckily, even when they do not, we still have a highly enjoyable record on our hands. For me, Shawn's production chops on "All the Other Kids" steals the show. The sample usage, the melody, and the overall upbeat swing of the record could arguably be enjoyed without any major vocal contribution (which was, in a way, the slight shortcoming here).
Still, this is worthy of repeat listens. |

I really like this. Probably one of the most unique beats I've heard in a while. I think I could throw this into a set at a house party and people would be feeling it even if they hadn't heard of it before. I like the sample in the hook. Very creative mixing that with the 808's. Nice Job too for artist and producer credits! A man of many taletns.

Unlike @JKL11293 I wouldn't say this sounds like something Kid Cudi would do, other than to say Shawn uses an obscure sample and flips it into a dope hip-hop record. This is exactly the kind of enjoyable, catchy record that could really catch on and proves Shawn's got some mainstream hit potential. Nicely done sir.

Ugh... The intro made me hate it, but then he started really rhyming and I started to like it. It could go far. Idk.

This could have been an instrumental without any artist contribution. Shawn out did himself on the production and the production over powered him in the end.
