When Shaun's manager e-mailed me, saying that Shaun did his DJBooth Freestyle over Nas' "One Mic" I was immediately skeptical. Not because Shaun isn't talented - because he is very talented. But rather because its hard to match up to classics knowing everyone will always hold you to that gold standard.
With that said, I come away from this listen very very impressed. Is it better than the original? No, but that is not the point. Its to showcase your skills in a creative way and that is done here. "One Yes. One DJ. One Booth." Oh yes. |

Hot production and strong lyrics. What more can you ask for in a song. Seriously, every song I have listened to today has been emotional as hell. Not a bad thing but it definitely doesn't brighten my day at all. I could have done with out the police sirens but that's my only complaint.
Damn you can just feel the pain in his lyrics and voice. Shaun Boothe really lays down some serious work and has you thinking the entire time. Another track that you can see many people relating too, maybe not the lyrics but definitely the tone. Nothing but all around great work on this track by Shaun Booth, keep it coming. |

Lyrics on this are really heartfelt, especially when combined with the tone of his voice. For a freestyle, this kid can spit, no complaints there.
Police sirens in the background of the production kind of distracted me a little, but the beat was hot. I enjoyed the piano and the little techno sound ringing off during the hook. This was some hot shit. Looking forward to his next premiere. Sick Freestyle. |

Right when I heard the intro I was nervous for this kid to jump on a great MC's song. Nas made a great song with this, and I will admit this kid did damn good. Speaks a great truth. He did good for himself and should be proud. Gives good energy. When people rap their feelings in this way the listener can really fell them better.

I Heard the bell at the beginning and i instantly though some heavy shit was about get dropped and indeed that's what happened.
i really liked the sirens in this track they complimented the feelings of this song. its a touching freestyle that has a feeling of a completely produced track its gripping. i really dig the waveryness of the snth within the beat and then the change up at the end when hes just talking is captivating it leaves you waiting too hear more "so all I need is more Shaun" 4 STARS ON LYRICS AND BANGER PRODUCTIION. |

Dope lyrics, dope flow, dope beat, everything worked. It must take a lot of talent to take something from Nas and make it your own and have it work so nicely.
The police sirens in the backdrop really contributed to the already overflowing emotion in the lyrics. Shaune Booth has a great flow, and I'll be surprised if he doesn't make it big one day with his obvious talent. |

It is a daring freestyle.
Sampling Nas's modern classic "One Mic," Shaun Boothe has set himself up for a mighty comparison from the very first line. In short, it is no "One Mic." But what is, right? What penetrates through my ears is Shaun Boothe's fire. He is genuine. He means it. You can hear it in every pause, emphasis, spit. The wavy synth gives the song almost an uplifting urban persona. Nas's original was ill and serious to the bone. This is a fine mix of equal parts respect and individuality. Loving the shout-out to DJ Booth at the end. That's what I'm talking about! |

His past tracks done impressed me! (especially "Concepts"), and this further cements the fact that this kid is talented. Raw passion infused into every line.
I’m positively amped to hear what he has to offer with his next single. |

One of my favorite Nas tracks of all time was reworked real nicely for this. Shaun tears this up. Real solid entry into the freestyle series. I'll give this a 4.5.
Can't wait to hear more from Mr. Boothe. |

He better bring his best when rhyming over a Nas classic and he did. Liked the changes in the beat as well.

DAMN, this is almost as good as Nas's One mic. The beat is classic. Shaun Boothe brings a nice flow and almost makes it good as the original. Love how he speeds up the flow too. Looking to hear more from this dude.

Never gunna match the original...but he sure has skills no doubt about it. He brings meaning to his own version...and it really gets you thinking about things in your own life. His lyrics are impressive and I can't believe this is only a freestyle. How ironic is it that his last name is Boothe and he did a freestyle for DjBooth while in the booth...I just had to throw that in there. But on a more serious note I can really believe everything that he says in this freestyle because you can just feel the meaning of his bars and the production helps bring out feeling as well.

I wouldn't have the balls to drop over this freestyle, but he did it and did pretty damn good with it. Jumping on a great track is a bit like a 2-edged sword. On the bright side if its worth jumping on then the production will make you sound great, which he did (not only cause of the production.) The other side is if the original was so great its almost impossible to match up, which he didn't, but he came suprisingly close.

Doing justice to Nas's "one mic" is a big task, but Shaun Boothe does more than that, he breathes new life into the track. Wow, I guess his name is Mr. Boothe for a reason!

Z hyped this freestyle submission awhile back, and rightfully so. Boothe's skills as a songwriter are impressive to say the least. This is one of the more creative concepts we've had for the series.
