In the hypersexualized world of pop and R&B, it’s nice to hear a singer like Young Money up-and-comer Shanell addressing life’s more mundane frustrations: y’know, like when you’re getting dressed, and you have a stubborn button that just won’t stay fastened. Wait… never mind, I see where this is going. If you haven’t guessed, My Button is actually an unusual take on the all-too-common theme of female sexual disappointment. Hit-Boy‘s innocently catchy synth/piano production serves as the canvas for a veritable bucket-load of innuendo. Addressing a crucial part of the female anatomy, the artist encourages it to make the best of of an underwhelming sexual encounter; and, when it’s clear that satisfaction isn’t in the cards, she urges it to sit tight till the man in question is out the door, at which point they’ll enjoy a little alone time. The cheerily risque result sounds a little like something you might hear in an X-rated Disney musical – I’ll leave it to y’all to decide whether that’s good or bad. If this joint succeeded in pushing your buttons (no, not in that way), you’ll want to keep it locked for details on Shanell’s debut set, whose title and release date are currently unknown.

...I don't know what to think of this song... It's catchy and I think I'd love it if I were still five years old because then it would all be about the beat and melody and the words would make no sense. But the words do make sense because I'm not five years old. Therefore, it is a wonderful song that I can never listen to again. 3 Stars but NOT in my rotation.

I find it hard to listen to the lyrics...I think its because I find her voice annoying...The production is good tho.

This is ear candy. If you like ear candy, you'll probably be a fan. If you don't care about ear candy - or you lack a fun, happy-go-lucky attitude - you probably are not a fan. I think its that simple, really.

This song has a weird vibe to it. I feel like the beat is made for kids, but the subject matter is not exactly for all ages. It's kind of catchy, but not in a good way. the metaphor isn't exactly clever either. I can stand it for a little bit, but, by the end, I'm pretty sick of this song.

This is a classic example of when a female plays that sex card and underestimates her talent and audience. Shanell CAN sing and probably can do more things with her voice than we'll ever know. This is actually a dope approach vocally to a song but the lyrics and production limit what could have been a great track.
