Shane Eli - Taste of What's to Come
Artist: Shane Eli
Producer: Shane Eli
Album: DJBooth.net Presents: The Push
Label: Unsigned
With his last feature, the prophetically titled I’m a Winner, Shane Eli made clear that Grey Area and Knuckle Up were only the beginning of a bona fide hot streak. On mixtape leak numero cuatro (another world premiere!), the West Coast hopeful drives the point home, informing fans that what they’ve heard thus far is only a Taste of What’s to Come. As usual, Eli handles the production and mic duties and, as usual, he delivers something totally different from his past work. Here, a Dre-esque blend of “keys over cello strings,” backed by a bouncy, stop-start percussion rhythm, sets the stage for braggadocio-drenched verses, which find Eli adopting an infectious, switched up flow as he spells out the extent of his ambitions: “I won’t stop till there’s Grammys on my wall.” If (when?) he makes it that far, you’re all going to remember where you heard him first, right? Those who enjoyed this Taste of What’s to Come can expect a veritable smorgasboard when DJBooth.net Presents: The Push hits our front page – keep it locked for release details!

First things first - this might be the second best song (ever) to begin with "Bounce for me.. Bounce for me..." (see Jay-Z's "Can I Get A...").
Great punchlines, love the piano in the production, and the chorus is catchy (you will sing along). If this is a taste of what's to come, Eli has a fat career ahead of him. |

I don't know what it is about me feeling the mood of a track before I even hear the lyrics, but I think this would have worked a lot better with the humorous edge removed from it. Otherwise it's pretty satisfying (I have to focus on the production to get there, though).

Crazy punchlines! Really diggin' this! Don't really think of it as being a "Banger" but still 4 stars for sure!

mathew kyle im exactly the same, if the intro issnt banger off the start then thats a bad omen for the rest of the track.
this is straight and that flow is pretty chill the beat is mundane but in a good way and builds up nice but it hold back to little to late i feel over-all its good not amazing though |

Like I said previously, I will rate every Shane Eli song at least 4* without even playing it first. See, it's a safe bet!
Pure talent put to use in an excellent effort on production, songwriting and delivery! This is officially the last great introduction to an artist I owe to Djbooth! |

Shane brings it to the mic, but I can't enjoy the production at all...AT ALL.

@The 149th - How can you "Bring it on the mic," but only receive a "1" rating?
I'd love to hear more in-depth feeback. Respect your opinion. |

mmmmhh. @The 149th, low ratings across the board tonight. Strong verses, I personally liked the production, but I can see how it may be annoying to others. Good work Shane Eli.

The beat's absolutely hypnotic, and Eli comes with the lyrics. With that said, I would have like to have seen him vary up the speed of his flow (see Luda for how it's done). He picks it up a little towards the end, but a couple spitfire sections could have taken this to the next level.

New feature just about every week with this guy. He has yet to disappoint me, but this track in particular is not going to make the cut. Piano in the production was repetitive and at some points really distracted me from what he was saying. Hook could some work, especially the lyrics. Something about this track doesn't really connect with me. Solid effort though.

The piano on this is BONKERS. Love piano beats. Reminds me of an Eminem track. Shane Eli's flow is nice, keeps you in it. I wonder what's to come. This dude produces and raps. Someone better sign him soon.

@Z: Well the production on here just took Shane in a whole other direction I didn't expect him to go in. His flow sounded forced just to go along with the weak production. Shane sounded like he had to water himself down for this track in particular. I just personally feel he is better than this track.

If this is just a taste - can't wait for Shane Eli to cook up the next thing. Consistently solid.

Don't know whats wrong with the production? The piano is really enjoyable and paired with the strings it was epic. I feel like some aren't listening to the track. He does well lyrically but the hook is pretty bad. Get a hook man on here or just redo it and ill consider a classic.

A lil' disappointing comparing to his last joints. I don't know... all I can say is the execution(flow/beat) is too uneven to give the effort top marks. 2.5
