Shane Eli - I'm Different [Premiere]
Artist: Shane Eli
Producer: Shane Eli
Album: DJBooth.net Presents: The Push
Label: Unsigned
Since Shane Eli‘s made his Booth debut back in mid-April, we’ve heard the Los Angeles rapper/producer craft everything from hater-baiting bangers, to mellow reflections on racial identity, to uplifting motivational anthems, to bittersweet chronicles of impossible love... but, can he also keep the club rocking? Well, yeah – as evidenced by I’m Different, the latest world premiere off Eli’s forthcoming, Booth-sponsored street album, he most definitely can. Over his own densely-layered blend of simmering synths and handclap percussion, the artist showcases his knack for lyrical stunting. As usual, though, he tempers his braggadocio and game-spitting with some real talk: “You fist-pump, you laugh, you get foolish / Cause bein’ you is exactly what cool is.” Is there anything this man can’t do? I’m not sure, but I do know that fans can expect more eclectically fresh beats and rhymes on Shane Eli’s DJBooth.net Presents: The Push LP, set to hit our frontpage for streaming and free download on June 16.

man, everything about this is absolute trash...jeeez.
the production is wack, the lyrics are watered down, definitely NOT a good look for Shane Eli. I expect way more from him to come onto the booth and hear this garbage. I'm very disappointed to say the least... |

I'm certainly not as down on this track as member TheHoss25, but it is the weakest of the features tracks from Eli to date. The production is solid, but the lyrical effort is run of the mill. Still, there is an audience out there that this type of song appeals to (the mainstream haha).

I'm different? That's an understatement. It's hard to believe this is the same dude who did Happiest Regret. Unfortunately I have to agree with the consensus so far - there's nothing necessarily bad about this track, but ironically it makes Eli sound like just about everyone else. I've got to believe he's got a better club jam in him.

WOw I don't understand the low ratings.
I don't know if I'd call this a club banger it's maybe a bit too rappy for being in the club but this is a hot track and the production is NUTS! I'm definitely digging this Shane impresses me more and more with every track and he's showing just how versatile he is. |

Definitely the weakest track from Shane so far. Production might do well up in the clubs. His flow isn't that enjoyable on this one.

Every album has a few tracks that don't play well for everyone. This one will fill the dancefloors but may not be for the purists.

This just shows Shane Eli can do it all. Nothing wrong with having a great club track - and this one's got dope lyrics and a great beat... I'm feeling it.

Not really my cup of tea. Nothing stood out to me on the lyrics, and the production didn't help out any. Seemed like a reach.

I'm surprised at people coming down on Shane Eli - the man has shown he has it going on. Quality, diversity and range beyond question. I've listened to the track a few times and the mainstream sound masks a subversive message about all the Goldiggas out there. Dark lyrics about being hustled, against a mainstream sound that's going to get all the Diggas dancing - that's smart.

I have no idea what everyone is smokin with the low ratings. I've been listening to this song all day and not only are the lyrics clever and funny, but this jam makes me want to find the nearest dancefloor.
i feel like ppl are just jumpin on the first commenters bandwagon. if that one was 4 stars, this would get different reviews. no doubt. |

Wow. So many haters. Eli this isn't amazing but it shows you are one of the most versatile rappers out in the world today, and I'm looking forward to your album. 5 stars to even out the haters.

This is one of those songs I hate rating. Obviously we feature alot of Shane's material [7 weeks and running], and for the most part they are warranted see "Grey Area", "Taste Of What's To Come" and "Haters". That being said, this sounds forced at times [See Chorus]. Str8 Filla No Killa

Kinda strange song. It is definitely "Different", but I don't hear this being played in the club. It is a very upbeat song but not quite right for the club, at least ones I've been to. True, the mainstream usually appeals to alot of garbage, but I don't think it was totally garbage just a weird choice of beat, for this vocal.

I agree with both DJ Z and TheHoss25 this song is not very good, definitely his worst song yet (and hopefully no other song he releases will be worse). I didn't like it but i have a feeling it will get big because fake rap fans will like it. i thought that his words in the beginning were hard to hear but as the song went on and the beat let down a little you could understand them better. Alone some of his words were clever at best but overall it wasn't a good song.

Like the others have said, probably the worst he's done to date, but don't trash it out and bag on him for it. Can't win em all, there isn't an artist who produces nothing but bangers all the time, happens to the best of them, just gotta learn from the mistakes to make it better.

Not his best work but still better than half the shit on here. I'm not giving it a 5 because it deserves a 5, I'm giving it a 5 because it sure as hell doesn't deserve an average below 3.
