Serius Jones - Stairway to Heaven
Artist: Serius Jones
Producer: Needlz
Album: Serius Bizness 2
Label: Unsigned
Not gonna lie: there’s a part of me that’s morbidly curious what a hip-hop cover of Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven might sound like. Even though another, smarter part of me knows that would probably be awful. In any case, we won’t be finding out today; this Stairway, the latest entry in Serius Jones’ Serius Sundays series, borrows only a central image from the aforementioned cut, and is likely the better for it. Here, producer Needlz’ funky sample work sets the mood as the Jersey repper draws our attention to those at the very bottom of the societal barrel, who struggle their whole lives find way out of the hole they were born in. Though Jones acknowledges that only the extremely lucky and/or talented (himself included – at least, he’s hoping so) make it out of the streets and to achieve success in this life, he trusts that the disenfranchised will get their due in the hereafter: Singer-songwriter Daria Jones handles guest duties, attacking the hook in passionately soulful style. Listeners jonesing for more Serius Jones should keep it locked for further entries in the emcee’s weekly series, as well as release details on his forthcoming Serius Bizness 2 mixtape.

Good lyrics but his voice begins to grate on you after the second verse...

After while it gets monotonous from the verses to the hook. I liked the beat though.

serius jones is a vicious battle rapper, i heard this dude kill emcees in a battle setting which brings me to this point being a good (or even a very good) battle rapper doesnt mean you make good music. this track is okay but nothing about it stands out.

On the fence with "Stairway to Heaven." I like Serius as an emcee, and I dig the production here, but something seems to be missing. The song is better than "OK," but I am not sure I'll be rotating this for long. I am curious to read what others think, though.

Great beat and his flow really compliments it well. He needs to be more consistent, I feel like he fell off after a little. I like the hook, but he needs to change up his flow to keep the listener interested. Not a bad effort though.
