Self Scientific - Deeper Roots
Artist: Self Scientific
Producer: DJ Khalil
Album: Designer Music EP
Label: IMADEIT
A beekeeper’s ability to extract honey from a beehive is something I’ve always been fascinated with. I couldn’t help but think of this as I listened to Self Scientific’s newest track Deeper Roots, which gaining pleasure from is very much like extracting honey from a beehive - the reward is there, but you just have to have the skill to find it. Comprised of emcee Chace Infinite and producer DJ Khalil, Self Scientific seems to offer Roots as a test of how trained our ears are; the track isn’t immediately gripping, but breaking it down into smaller components reveals its value. To the untrained ear, the track’s robotic hook and melody-forming choral helium voices may feel more like the pain of a bee sting than the pleasure of a banger. However, listen more closely to find just how good Chace’s honey-like flow and Khalil’s intricate production are. Roots will be a part of Scientific’s buzzworthy EP Designer Music, due to be released soon.

DJ Khalil provides a dope beat, but i dunno if the voice alteration is necessary on the hook. I love what they are saying, but the warp kinda takes away from it. Otherwise, the verses make this is a solid all-around track.

I agree the TheBayToLA i don't know if they should have warped the voice on the hook. But the the verses were strong.

Mmm I dunno, I kinda like the hook with the voice electro change, it suits the spacey beat more. Infact I'm gonna listen to it again..
Yep, this definetly bangs, loving the beat by Khalil, and Chase is a monster and kills it :p Might have to check out the mixtape |

Make that another listener who also questioned the effects on the hook, but even that doesn't downgrade the quality of the record. Without a doubt rotation.
I am looking forward to this EP. Khalil always impresses me with his production expertise. |

beat is straight, could have been better sound like they din take there time with it and nourish it, and the background sample is just a lil bit off at times, and the vocals need to be raise a lil bit more...i could have seen where they were going with the hook, but its a fail...but im loving the lyrics and the flow so this isn't garbage but i don't believe this won't go far as a nerd putting it on their myspace page for a few weeks...bad ending as well

I'm gonna go on a limb and say this song is very entrancing, and the effects on the hook make it stand out. I haven't heard a DJ Khalil beat that I haven't heard, and this is def. no exception. This is a tight song, just gotta give it a few listens and give it a chance to get in your head.

Let the debate continue. I feel like everyone wants to speed up a vocal sample for a hook not. Khalil's better than that.
Still, doesn't change the essential quality of the cut, which is, ultimately dope. |
