Fans have been waiting for dancehall/reggae hitmaker Sean Paul‘s fourth album for quite a while now—way back in September of ‘07, when it was titled The Next Thing, we brought you supposed lead single Watch Dem Roll. The LP still hasn’t materialized, but now it seems like Sean’s gotten back on track; on Saturday, he premiered the real first single off his senior album, now known as Imperial Blaze. Promising a female who’s So Fine that he’ll be her sunshine (if she’ll be his windchime), Paul sticks close to his formula—with a catchy hook, a bass-pounding, synth-heavy instrumental (courtesy of Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor), and plenty lightning-fast, heavily-accented rhymes, this cut has all the makings of another radio and dancefloor scorcher, and will likely be a hit among club-minded Booth readers. Set to drop August 18th, Imperial Blaze will come just in time to turn up the Temperature on the tail end of summer ‘09.

I rated this a 3.5 originally and I still think that rating suits this song. It aint a 'Temperature' or 'We Be Burning' (my two favorite Sean Paul songs), but it is a track that shore will do some damage in the clubs

This took a few listens to grow on me, but it def did grow on me. this is pretty sick for clubs. i dont think it will do as well as Get Busy or temperature because those were a lot more original than this.

I was looking forward to a comeback from Sean Paul since he's been gone for a minute, but I wasn't really feeling this one compared to his other hits. I didn't sense the vibe with this one as much, but it has potential to catch my attention in the clubs. Potential to grow on me.

Guess he's sticking to the script here...Remember, all the singles he's released so far have been SMASH HITS! This might not reach #1 on Billboard (like Get Busy and Temperature did), but it will still do its thing in the clubs and get everyone flocking to the dancefloor! Welcome back, Sean Paul-here's hoping the formula still works.

This is def solid enough for rotation. It's nothin too great, but should get some spins. I always thought that on certain tracks Sean Paul sounds super cool wit his accent over the beat, even tho I barely understand a word. This track is one of those.

I feel like the vocals sound different for Sean Paul a lil bit, idk what about it sounds different. I usually enjoy his one summer hit he used to have each year, however this one doesn't seem to be as great as those in the past.

Damn! Sean Paul is back! Love this track. His voice is so amazing to me, though, that I don't think I've ever heard a bad song. Lovethe production on this one, too. Definitely makes youwant to dance (or at least attempt to dance, for some of us white boys lol). All in all, though, I'm gonna call it Banger, because while it is a very hot track, I'm not sure it will stay around for too long.
In closing, I also did not like the fade out at the end. I never have liked a song closing with a fade out. It's the easy way out. So, there's just another reason why it didn't earn that last star. |
