I hate to say it, folks, but I think I may be losing my edge – after clicking “play” on Sean Kingston‘s latest single and having no idea what he was talking about, I Googled ”BBM” to discover that Blackberry Messenger had been around since, like, 2006. Chalk it up to being an Android user, I guess. Anyway, this freshly-released lead single finds the hitmaker hooking up with two fellow young whippersnappers to pay tribute to the new(er)fangled communication app that’s gonna send SMS the way of the carrier pigeon. Over Detail‘s radio-ready synths, Kingston announces that, now that he’s copped a Blackberry, he’s sworn off texting in favor of instant messaging. Soulja Boy supports Sean’s decision on the back, flaunting his female appeal (and dropping a “bestest/restest” couplet sure to elicit dramatic eye-rolls from lyrical heads) in a swag-soaked guest 16, and Teairra Mari ties it all together with some tuneful hook vocals. Digging this tech-savvy jam? Then keep it locked for the latest on Kingston’s third album, which has yet to receive either a title or a solid release date. Also, watch out for Soulja’s junior set, The DeAndre Way, which drops on the November 30.

Interesting. The song appeals to Kingston's younger, female fan base (we will say 12 to 18 years of age), but do these very listeners actually have Blackberry's to BBM on? I haven't called the company, but I would assume that young teens are not BB's target demo. Older BBM users probably laugh at a song like this, but with all the crazy success that Sean has seen nothing would surprise me.

I THING THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS IS THE BEAT,SEAN KINGSTON CUD HAVE DONE A WAY BETTER HOOK FOR THIS I AM A FAN OF HIS CATCHY HOOKS HE SEEMS TO HAVE LOST HIS GROOVE AT THE MOMENT,I THINK THIS SONG WILL SUIT SOULJAH BOYS FAN BASE MORE LIKELY BUT IT IS WHAT IT IS JUST A SONG THAT WILL PHASE OUT IN AFEW WEEKS

@ Z... I've got a brother in that age range and from what I've seen Blackberry is all the craze with them right now.. Quite surprising that a 'smart' phone would generate such a buzz.
As for the track, it's just too cheesy for my liking, but I'm not the target market |

Ok folks, i know it's Sean Kingston, and i know it's not anywhere close the song of the year, but come on, the song definitely deserves more than one star. Atleast 2 or 3. I mean the song has a good beat, and the song itself really isn't all that bad. Plus it's catchy enough to get some radio play. Was "Letting Go" better? Yes. But trust me people this song could have been worse. Geez, lay off of all the hate a little.

Ummm, nope. Not feeling it. It's too annoying; Kingston's fake accent and his and Teairra's over auto-tuned vocals. Wow, Soulja Boy sounds even worse.
This sounds like an LOL Smiley Face response. Even the catchy Jim Jonsin-esque ringtone synthesizers can get a bit annoying. |
