Sean Garrett - Summer Love
Producer: Black Elvis & Sean Garrett
Album: The Inkwell Mixtape
Label: Bet I Penned It/Roc Nation/Columbia
Here they come folks, a slew of summer tracks from every artist with a pulse. This installment of “Who Wants a Summer Hit?” features Sean Garrett and his new single Summer Love. I’m sure there have been a plethora of songs titled Summer Love throughout the years, but they probably haven’t sounded like this. With Garrett sharing production duties with Black Elvis, the duo incorporate an abundance of bass into the beat along with a screwed and chopped hook; it seems like Garrett was aiming for something you could ride to, and on that level he succeeded. Lyrically the smooth banger features Yo Gotti and Bun B, but I’m convinced the primary reason that the song is being featured is for the latter of the emcees—Bun B does his thing on the southern style production. Those looking to procure this cut can wait for Sean Garrett’s mixtape The Inkwell to drop later this summer, but as for me, I’ll be buying on iTunes and cutting the end of the song so I only hear the Bun verse.

If this was merely a throwaway "mixtape track" I'd have nothing but favorable things to say about, but if its being pushed as an actual bonafide radio single I have my doubts. Sean is a great writer, but his skills don't translate vocally here. Bun's guest verse and the production make it more than listenable, but not in long term rotation.

Nothing special here in my eyes, seem like they were going for that summer hit but just came out with a run of the mill song with a solid Bun B verse. Not much more I can say about it.

The beat is HOT ill admit that but Sean Garrett sounds out of place here!!
This is more of a Bun B beat!! Should of gave Bun the beat and had him feature Gotti since he was descent!! |

The production knocks and Bun B went IN....but thats it. Smh what a THROWAWAY track..!! Garrett & Elvis should've just sold this beat to Bun so it can go on his new album. But all things considered.......this is a WASTE....

This is decent, but I don't think Sean will ever bag a solo hit.

I have to agree with just about everyone here. I'm really not feeling this track at all. It's not catchy enough to be just a summer radio track and its not anything special. It's just some awkward middle ground track which does nothing for me (except Bun B, but even that doesn't justify this track).

Nice production on here. The Beat is perfect for Bun B, so it was natural for him to set it off. Sean Garrett and Yo Gotti is pretty nice on the track. I'm feelin it, but not lovin it.

It's a Bun B beat no doubt but is far from a summer banger... Sean is terrible, shame poor oke... There's a reason he's "The Pen" and not "The Hook" or "The Voice"...

Seems like we all agree here. This track is super hit or miss for me. If this was just a Bun track with that beat, and a reworked hook, we'd be talking about an absolute summer banger. But as is? I have to downgrade to middle of the road.

I think it's a solid banger..(Even tho' it wouldn't do as well on the radio)..

The production is admirable... But the hook could've been a lot better though... 2 - **'s

Not a bad effort, but not the best by far from these contributors. 3 stars.

Think Sean Garrett should stick to writing songs, because he just doesn’t have that appeal as a solo artist.

First of all, the #1 rule for having a summer smash is dont let the first words in the intro have anything to do with profanity. Secondly, this track just sound like another track for hood rats everywhere. No thanks.
