It’s been said more than once around these parts that a major guest feature can be a double-edged sword; just take Sean Garrett’s new promo single Get It All. On one hand, we’re probably not talking about this track, and by extension Garrett, if it didn’t contain a guest verse from the hotly controversial Nicki Minaj. On the other hand, it’s never a good thing when an artist gets overshadowed on their own track, which is exactly what happens here. Garrett, whose songwriting skills are undeniable (see Mario’s Break Up), isn’t exactly displaying the full range of his production skills on Get It All - there’s a fine line between minimalistic and simplistic, and this feels like the former - and his vocal skills don’t exactly impress. Still, you have to admit that Sean Garrett’s on your radar, and considering he recently left Interscope to start his own label, that’s a mission accomplished for Mr. Garrett. Wow. This beat totally caught me off guard, I was expecting a club banger. Instead, it's like some beat made for a kids show. Sean isn't that great of an artist, yeah he can write but his vocals aren't that great. He's also boring which I guess that's why Nicki easy dominated this. Though I'm not a fan of her's either.

I wasn't feeling this at all. It didn't sound like very much effort was put into the production and his singing was just average. SG needs to come way harder than this. Nicki was tight though.

Nicki is really on the rise. Anything her name is attached to seems to buzz like crazy. If she is able to do that for this record, well - then I'll be very surprised.
The minimalist production isn't enjoyable, the chorus is real weak, and overall I cannot get into this record. I'll keep the 2's going.

I hated it upon first listen, the beat did, and I quote HoamBoy, sounded like a "kiddy" beat. But after listening again, I began to like it, especially Nicki's part. This isn't bad, but Sean Garrett can do better.

Where is there garbage at? Haha, Sean Garrett's songs recently (Smooches, Up In Ya Heart) have been BANGERS to the MAX. this is 4.5 stars but i gotta bring these rating up.

Garrett is Pippen but he keeps trying to be Jordan. He at his best when he's concentrating on making everyone around him better, but he can't hold the spotlight on his own. The best thing about Pippen was he knew his role, unlike Garrett.

Has Garrett not realized yet that he is clearly not meant to sing? You would think that after 4 failed singles he would realize that it's about time to stick to writing. Sean is one of my favorite writers but this solo career just simply isn't work. Nicki still bothers me. I don't see myself joining the bandwagon any time soon. Her voice is so childish that I feel like a pedophile every time she touches the mic. I'm giving this a 1.5 but I'll round up for the production.

It's just ok. I can hear it getting radio play but I'm not excited about the song at all. The beat is typical and the lyrics, unimaginative. I'm being nice to say its ok.

This is kind of flat and keyboard melody soon got boring, and none of the voices do anything exciting, including Nicki’s cocky raps and Sean Garrett’s always unappealing voice. Okay at very best.

When a song is really simple, it has to be really catchy for me to like it. And this succeeds. Sean Garrett's voice isn't that great, but Nicki Minaj's feature put the song up. Definitely on Rotation.

SG isn't the best singer, but his songwriting skills never fail. I can imagine someone like Dream or Trey Songz on this one. Sounds like a beat that the former would make though.
The beat, like "Break Up", has started to grow on me. It's ridiculously catchy. Just needs different artists. |
