Sean Garrett - In Da Box

The long-delayed album of producer/singer/rapper/songwriter/former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture (ok, I made that last one up) Sean Garrett is finally truly taking form. Almost six months after his last offering, the J.Cole assisted and Booth-approved Feel Love, Mr. Garrett is back and ready to swag on new single In Da Box. Production on the X-Rated record comes courtesy of the current King of Bangers, Lex Luger, who takes his usual booming bass back a couple notches and adds some light synths for a more radio friendly feel, while constant Lex companion Rick Ross drops in for, of course, a molasses flowed verse (Bawse!). As for Sean, he lays down an appropriately catchy and suggestive hook while also grabbing the mic for two verses drenched in references to sex, places to have sex and a certain sexual practice I can’t name here without getting fined by the FCC. Steamy new single aimed at radio (after it gets a little editing)? Major guest verse? While there’s still no release date set for Garrett’s upcoming album, Courtesy Of, all signs point to sooner rather than later.

"In The Box" is Sean trying to enter the clubs and stay there for good. His previous J. Cole-assisted single wasn't exactly prototypical club affair, but this works for that arena. The hook is catchy, as is Ross' feature verse, but "In The Box" isn't different enough to stand out from the current pack of commercially manufactured bleh.

I know this song is catchy and will most definitely be on the radio and the mainstream heads will memorize every word, but this was garbage to me.

Other than the lack of overloaded bass, this is the same Lex beat. Catchy vocals by the Pen though; and the Rozay feature works. Bawse!

This works for the clubs. Its fun but very formulaic to the point of sounding recycled.

let's face it. this is garbage. Sean Garrett ain't no singer to me and Lex Luger with his boring elementary beats also sucks hard

Oh Lex, say it ain't so. Sean has been trying to find his lane for some time now while I don't think it's bad it's just the run of the mill for me. Ricky's verse is predictable.

Pretty generic club/radio Hip-hop. What can be said about this song that cant e said about a million other songs on the radio? Absolutely nothing. Ross adds nothing to the track, which doesn't have much to begin with.
