The Script - Walk Away
Artist: The Script
Featuring: B.o.B
Producer: Danny O'Donoghue, Mark Sheehan
Album: Science & Faith
Label: Sony Music
Earlier this month, B.o.B. swept the 2010 Best of the Booth Awards’ Best Crossover Record category with Airplanes, a smash-hit whose appeal transcended national and genre boundaries. Now, the ATL hitmaker’s harnessed his powers of global appeal in order to help the three funkiest dudes in Dublin get some shine stateside. Walk Away, the latest single (and first Booth feature) from The Script, finds vocalist/keyboardist Danny O’Donoghue, guitarist/producer Mark Sheehan and drummer/multi-instrumentalist Glen Power telling a story of unlikely love over a lush, string-accented pop-rock backdrop. Enlisted for this remixed version of the record, Bobby Ray proves the perfect addition to the emotionally-charged jam; in heartfelt guest bars, he admits he’ll be lost without his girl but refusing to let her make him into somebody he’s not: “I’m sorry that I couldn’t be your fantasy, but if this ain’t what you want then you should leave.” Craving more new music from the Celtic soul brothers? You’ll find what you seek on their latest LP, Faith & Science, released in Sept. 2010 and available now in stores and online.

First Jessie J, now The Script. I know Bobby Ray doesn't like being labeled as a pop artist (even though there is nothing wrong with that label and it means you're popular), but a few more of these collaborations and he'll have a hard time every breaking through that wall in the future. While "Walk Away" rests comfortably on the outskirts of "urban music," its genuinely catchy and should introduce some unsuspecting fans into B.o.B. lovers.

A different sound for both The Script and BoB. While both achieved huge pop radio success in 2010, I didn't see this. I like the track and BoB definitely adds energy and likability to the song in general, but I'm not sure this is a combination that will shoot to the top of the charts (unlike Haley Williams, Airplane). I do, however, like when 2 artists come together to create a mashup sound, so for that I can dig it.

While some of these recent appearances by Bobby Ray may show him leaning into the pop category that is so dreaded around here, people need to remember that he did just release a free mixtape with more of his rapping skills being used. He's just trying to find his own balance, and I think with all he's doing in the game right now, he genuinely enjoys his crossover style and reputation.
More on topic, this song didn't really have me feeling it, but it was pretty good. I have a hard time giving anything with my man B.o.B in it less than 4 stars, here's a 3 just because Im gonna give this some more listens. |

Much bigger fan of the original song with just The Script. B.o.B. doesn't quite fit in on this one. The original "Walk Away" is much more natural, good song. This version is just sort of doesn't mesh.

Now THIS is absolutely dope!
Great fusion of rock and hip-hop here. B.o.B shows his true crossover versatility in his musicality even more here. |

This is very good. Bobby Ray and The Script sound like they make one solid group. This isnt even genre blending, this sounds completely on the alternative side. Infact it reminds me of Linkin Park, with the mix of rap and alterntive leads.

I didnt know what to expect when I hit play but I was surprised. Real clean crisp sound - well polished pop - but not cheesy in any way. The production on this is the standout, but BOB does his thing.

This actually sounds Citizen Cope on steroids to me. Anyone get that reference?
I thought Bobby proved that he can still rap with the best of them on No Genre, and as that mixtape showed, he's one of the most versatile dudes working, which means he can make a pop/rock song like this sound pretty damn good. Call me impressed. |

start every song off at 5 stars and knock off stars as it goes on but this track stayed at 5 stars. awesome beat, nice hook and amazing lyrics. B.o.B. really fit well on this track, which again proved his versatility. loved the track, definitely on repeat for me.

Production here is the star player, everything else, including B.o.B was subpar.

This is really good, and much better that I had though. It is a different look for the script who usually produce less upbeat songs. Adding B.o.B. was a great decision as he fits perfectly. This might just be another hit.

I was wondering how this song would play out. It isn't a mix I expected to see, but then again B.o.B has made those jumps before. I ended up really liking it. I think B.o.B needs to continue to do his thing. His mixtapes prove that he can rap, and is probably one of the top 10 mainstream rappers, and his CDs and singles prove that he can go with an R&B type flow, jump on a rock song, kill it on a "pop" song, and then go back and jump on a rap track and kill it. B.o.B is one of the most versatile rappers out there and he is one of the best versatile rappers out there.

I don't mind B.o.B crossing to other genres as long as it's good music, this was great! And i like how he had more than just one verse in this guest appearance. The Script did a great job with this.
