The son of singer/songwriter/producer Harvey Scales, rapper Scalez has had music in his blood for quite some time. Previously known as JR da Superstar, the Milwaukee native was part of local group the Ghostwriters (along with Scott Knoxx) and released the underground album Die Another Day. Currently signed to national indie label DonRico Records, Scalez is set to finally give Mil-Town some much deserved shine with his brand-new single. At first listen, Put It Down might sound like your typical pole dancers’ anthem; if you listen closely, however, and you’ll learn that Scalez loves women who work hard for their money, not only in the strip club but also in office cubicles. Thanks in part to their longstanding work relationship, producer Soundz (see Love In This Club Pt. 2) puts it down with the beat, sampling K-Ci & JoJo’s All My Life. Scalez’ national debut, The Fly Report, is set to land on store shelves in early ‘09.
I really liked the production on this track. It sounded like Nelly's "Wadsyaname". Oooo, whoops....duh...didn't read Burmy's review at the top...lol! They sampled that. I like that about it. I also like that synth stolen from T.I's "No Matter What" track. The vocals on the hook is pretty crispy. Scalez's flow is really nothing special. He sounds original though, but his lyrical content is just recycled from everything else I've heard from "dime-a-dozen" rappers lately. Who's on the hook? It sounds like Trey Songz. I wonder. Overall, this is a decent joint. I'll throw it in rotation. It's not bad.
Production is the highlight of the song. Beat, lyrics, chorus all match harmonously..is that a word?? lol. Ne ways..this shyt is in rotation. Nice track!
oh snap the smashin beat droped down,
made mi go hectik!!!!!! im feelin thiz fo sho,
damn that beat iz vibe'in thru my body like 'as omarion wud say -electrik-' lmao
I'm feeling this. Kinda like the reviewer said, nice little strip club vibe going on. The beat is sick, the chorus is a good one, and I like Scalez using the autotuner here. This will be a hit.
I expected better from this song. I mean, the production is excellent, beat and music, and he absolutely can sing. The only problem is that the hook is a lil' weak and the fact that he repeats it endlessly does not help. I think this track has potential to become a banger, I'll only have to get used to hearing "Put It Doooown" for countless times
is he wearing butterfly wings in the pic? what is this world coming to lol...
song is illy...i do agree with Patty though, i said it countless of times...just because you repeat the same thing 78 times doesnt constitute as a hook...
everything else in this song is smooth, me gusta
Never heard of Scalez, glad the Booth introduced us haha, GREAT review Burmy, it sounds exactly like that except for the No Matter What synth as MH pointed out, good lookin, BANGERR!!, ill listen to it again.
Oh yeah baby! The Mil-Town is back on top! First the Brewers won the NL Wild Card, and now this-Scalez been rapping for quite a while over here-gotten plenty of respect underground, and with the name change he's starting to have a more positive-vibed outlook. I've been checking for Soundz a year before the rest of you all, and he killed it with the beat. This. Will. Be. A. Hit. From any other city, it would be a 4, but for love of the SEWI, I'm giving this a 5. Right now it's on pace to be the first 414 track in over a year to make the DJBooth charts-Godspeed Scalez!
