The 169th entry in our DJBooth.net Freestyle Series comes courtesy of Saukrates, the Toronto native who brought us Wednesday (Remix) and the reader-acclaimed Hot Like Summer. On his brand new, exclusive Lemonade Stand freestyle, the Blacksmith/Universal rapper flows over a Bangladesh-produced instrumental originally featured on Gucci Mane‘s Lemonade. Saukrates is currently working with Canada’s own DJ Wrispect on a new mixtape series titled Bridging the Gap. In addition, he is set to appear as a supporting act on Redman‘s upcoming North American tour.
Readers can download a copy of In the Booth (Volume 4), featuring exclusive freestyles 91 through 120, here! Volumes one, two and three are available for download here, here and here. Watch for Volume 5 to hit our front page in late May.

Thanks to Saukrates for finding the time to knock out his DJBooth.net freestyle amidst touring with Drake. That is dedication (which I cannot say about plenty of other artists we've extended invites to).
Though plenty of people I know have grown sick and tired of the Gucci "Lemonade" beat, I am still a fan. I really enjoyed the way Sauk changed up his flow three times in the record, none of which didn't mesh well with the beat. I think we are all accustomed to hearing nonsense rhymes over this beat, but Soxx drops some real heavy bars and does so entertainingly. |

I'm already really tired of the Lemonade instrumental but I'm glad Saukrates was able to put a different spin on it. His lyrics are pretty good, you just have to listen carefully and you will realize he got some nice rhymes.

Hah the Lemonade beat again. Saukrates is a dope dude. Don't like any of the Lemonade songs out there except the original and probably this song now. When he starts going in on the 2nd verse he got my approval. Good freestyle sauk though I'd like this beat to beat finished, going out with a bang.

Co-sign x20nickel, that 2nd verse was my favorite.
I think it could've used a little more energy, but still an enjoyable track. |

The beat selection is puzzling. Lacks energy. Appreciate the look, but I'm not a fan.

It's too bad there isn't more Sauks on DJBooth but better than nothing.
I'm not the biggest fan of the beat but knowing he probably didn't have much time to get this out, he did a damn good job. |

Lemonade was, and continues to be, my favorite guilty pleasure beat right now. Every time it comes on I'm like, "f**k, not this song again", and then thirty seconds later I'm nodding my head.
Z's right. The way Sauk flips up his style and pacing throughout the track really keeps it fresh. Three stars, but that second verse (starting at 1:50) was so dope - I feel like people aren't understanding how deep that is - I'm knocking it up to four. |

Damn, even though Gucci is a pretty talentless artist, IMO, he has an eye for nice production. I liked the "Lemonade" when it first came out and I still love it now. Saukrates is an artist that I have given to grow on me. Unfortunately, I wasn't a big fan of this freestyle.
Saukrate's overall delivery on this track sounds really boring and lacks that spark of energy and enthusiasm that this beat really requires. While I do prefer this over the original, I couldn't really keep this on repeat for too long. Saukrates is a great artist, I just wasn't feeling this track as much as everyone else. |

The beat is weak. His rapping is alright, but nothing special.

I appreciate the changing of the flow for each verse, but it would have been better on another beat. I did like how he formulated a new hook for the beat, though. Kind of brings that over-used instrumental back to life in some way.

The dynamical performance by Saukrates is good and much appreciated, but I’m not particularly amazed by any particular flow despite liking the song... er... I mean freestyle.
Regardless, it is still a great entry, but some value of enjoyment is lost in the general repetitiveness of the beat. |
