Sammy Adams - Driving Me Crazy
Artist: Sammy Adams
Producer: Sam Adams
Album: Boston's Boy EP
Label: RCA
Making his extraordinarily unlikely DJBooth debut today is Sam Adams, the now 288-year-old political philosopher and founding father who….wait…what? It’s not that Sam Adams? My bad. Whether Sam Adams takes his name from the founding father or the beer or both, the (obviously) Boston-based singer/emcee is making his first appearance on our pages with his melodic, bouncing new single Driving Me Crazy. If the track’s electronically melodic, sugar sweet production is driving you crazy, you can thank (or blame) Adams himself, who in addition to manning the boards contributes punchline driven rap/talk hybrid verses about the tendency of men to act insane over the fairer sex, or more specifically, to act insane in pursuit of sex with the fairer sex: “Not Tony Hawk, but last night, gave her the whole thing, no halfpipe.” If you’re losing your mind (in a good way) over this unapologetically enjoyable cut, be sure to check out Adams’ alliterate and aptly-titled new EP Boston Boy, available now online.

Had NOOO idea who this guy was until I saw his album is #1 downloaded on iTunes! Crazy, I know. I thought he was the dopest thing since sliced bread for about 10 minutes until I heard more of his work. This is easily his best record and there are a few others worth listening to, so definitely check him out.

He's already #1, CB? On Thursday when I was sent this record the album was at #5 on the charts. Crazy!
Love the tempo here. This wasn't invented for the club, but I could see it finding a home there. However, it isn't limited to a specific audience. First impressions are everything and Mr. Adams did his job. |

I went on Itunes the other day and saw that this kid had the top album on Rap/Hip-Hop. And the rating was 4.5, so I thought he was gonna be legit. Turns out this is the only legit song he had. I thought he would bring something different, but its the same stuff that you hear everyday.
I thought he had a nice flow on here, and theres no doubt that its catchy. |

As a born and bred Bostonian, I'm kind of torn on this one.
On the one hand, Boston's known for it's hard-laced lyricism, and this definitely isn't that. On the other hand, we've never had any artist really get any national spotlight, so to see someone repping Boston on a large scale stage like this is dope. So in the end, keep doing the damn thing Adams. Do the city proud. Also, Yankees suck. |

#1 on iTunes? With music like this, I don't get it. The hook is lame and his singing got annoying halfway through. He's a average rapper too and his flow was decent. So what's so special about this song again?

Rather then do what most other Boston MC's do, I'ma just show this love because he accomplised what he set out to do. Joint is catchy and he's gettin attention with it. That's the point. Good shit for the Bean.

Serious? This is trash. Straight pop-shit. I am surprised to find this crap on this site. If this is what Boston has to offer for rappers no wonder no one from there ever blew.

I like the beat and the verses, flow is nice, but not a huge fan of the hook, just not really my style but it is catchy as hell. No doubt that this song is hot, and have a hard time not believing that it was ranked high on itunes.

really catchy production as im sure everyone has already gathered. his vocals are average but good enough to ensure banger status. cant help but wonder how deep his album is, more of the same or is this his "feel-good" album track?

This will do well because EVERYONE will recognize the sample. Annie Lennox "Walking On Broken Glass". Adams sounds like a poor man's version of Asher Roth if there is such a thing. ONE hit is better than NO hits.

Nice bumpy jam that is fused with decent raps and catchy melody, and he was able to utilize the auto-tune to surprisingly good effect here. Moderate replay value.

I really don't like it...Rumors are circling that he bought $75,000 worth of his own music on credit card from Itunes.. peep-- http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.10818/title.boston-rapper-sam-adams-accused-of-buying-own-music

This is good, but if you ever heard "I Hate College [Remix]" by him where he freestyles over the "I Love College" by Asher Roth, he TARES it up, google that song now. I like this song tho

He can flow his rhymes but this is way too cookie cutter sounding and the chorus is annoying. If he switched up the sound and content... id bang with him.

Wow, I have to say that I'm dissapointed in the less than 3 star overall on this one. I will agree that this was by far his best track but I enjoyed "Just Love Here" as well. This is very catchy and I like his voice as well. This guy is getting a lot of buzz real quick which sort of reminds me of Mike Posner(Who should be on the booth). All said, good track!

Sam adams is sick. Mostly every song has a sick beat and he's got bars. In around 3 year i bet he comes out and releases some dope songs. As of now hes got a lot of good songs, Like kimber, its about his dead friend but its still catchy and i never can stop listening to it. or opening day, sickest beat and he destroys it. Or even the im goin in, and you want this remix's. I think hes gonna come out on top soon

I can easily see people going NUTZ to this cut. Sammys tempo is great the energy he brings to his songs makes them all enjoyable for me.
Every time I hear this song I cant help but grin. Thats what good music does I guess. |

Nathan hit it right on the head in naming Adams as a hip-popper. He wouldn't last in hip-hop and only as one hit featured verse wonder on an unknown R&B artist's track. So maybe this was the perfect move for him. The beat is jammable but that's just about it.
