Last week, rapper Saigon released a statement through his MySpace page that detailed why he has decided to officially quit rapping. The guest star on the hit HBO show, Entourage, claims he decided to pursue a career in rap for a completely different reason than most newer artists today. While his record company, Atlantic, hasn’t sent out a press release regarding the remarks, it seems imminent that sometime in 2008 the company will release Saigon’s debut album, The Greatest Story Never Told. While numerous delays of the album are most likely what led to Saigon’s statement, new music from the rapper continues to leak, a signal that the setbacks never stopped the New York-native from recording. Alongside Memphis Bleek, Saigon unleashes Ryders (Da Ville To Da Stuy), a track that compares the two artist’ neighborhoods. Will Saigon ride out his current situation till its end? 2008 will provide an answer to a question that might never be answered.

I don't really know what to think. I think Saigon like Papoose and J-Hood already missed their time to shine. The window of opportunity for artists is so small and timing is everything to make it or even make a little bit of money off of it. Saigon was really hot when 50-cent first came out and this is no where near as hot as he used to be. But while 50 was out back then people wasn't listening to any other mixtapes by unknown artists. With that being said, I think he should just stay retired. Who really cares? This track is average although it is good to hear Bleek again. Saigon didn't say anything that made me stand back with amazement...

Saigon is such a talented MC and his positive mentality combined with his legit street cred is just what hip-hop needs right now. But I'm fed up with his countless issues and the endless anticipation of this album. Stop putting all of your emotions out on MySpace and turn them into hot records!

It seems as though he took a three-point shot at the buzzer...and missed. I like Saigon, but this song misses the mark.
