Saigon - Aye, Aye, Aye
Artist: Saigon
Producer: Buckwild
Album: Warning Shots 2
Label: Suburban Noize Records/RED
Perhaps the most widely-used vocal sound effect in hip-hop is “aye!” Popularized by Juelz Santana, the interjection was ruined for many by its high-pitched repetition on nearly every track featuring OJ da Juiceman. Now, though, one of hip-hop’s most underrated MCs has taken it upon himself to save that long vowel sound. This new street single finds Saigon at his most aggressive, flowing over a vintage NYC-style beat by Buckwild as he asks the DJ to play that Aye Aye Aye. Whether the request will be accepted or denied depends on who you ask; though radio DJs might be unwilling to spin the part where Sai spits “...tear your f*ckin’ head off,” the Booth’s resident DJs will undoubtedly pick up the slack and give this track the rotation it deserves. Those craving some more new Saigon won’t have to wait long—with the September 29th release of Warning Shots 2, the Booth favorite will finally be able to say he’s gotten a CD onto store shelves.

I've been waiting for new material from this dude. The beat kind of caught me off guard, I was expecting something hard-hitting like C'mon Baby. Still dope from buckwild and I'm hoping the album finally drops in the near future.

Saigon is capable of near-greatness. He talks about it a lot (and even in this song he mentions it), but to his credit he has the ability.
To this point, however, it has not been showcased on a major stage - might this be the reason why? This record can rotate, but for how long... |

Saigon is capable of so much more than this. I've heard some great songs from him (Pain In My Life coming to mind) and this is just OK for him. Beat is OK and the hook is too repetitive.

I been following saigon for awhile now, but ever since he dropped "All in a Days Work" I been a big
fan. Everything he has dropped since has been dope ... but this is far from his best stuff. Beat is serviceable. Concept is good but joint suffers in order to get it across with that kinda repititive hook (blame it on OJ, one can hardly bear that sound nowadays)... To Saigon's credit - he turns in a good performance, Since he is in his subject matter safe zone (Im-cooler-than-thou-rhymes) ... 2.5 |

The concept is fully mainstream. But the beat and lyrics refuse to conform(sans the hook), he isn't gonna get anywhere unless he makes his mind up. I prefer his more lyrical/storytelling approach
