What? How can this be Sade’s debut on the Booth!? She’s been making supremely smooth music for years! Actually, while Sweetest Taboo might seem like just yesterday for us 80s babies, it’s been ten years since we’ve heard from Sade, a hiatus that has mercifully ended with the release of her new single Soldier of Love. (Note: Sade is technically the name of the entire band, but since Sade’s the lead singer, and they named the band after her, I’m sticking with the singular.) Anyway, produced by Sade and Mike Pela, Soldier of Love is an appropriately militaristic track featuring snare drum percussion, mournful horns and Sade’s always seductive and subdued vocals, the perfect mix for a track about carrying on after a broken heart. I’m not sure it’s as good as the classic Sade I grew up with, but I’m so happy to see her back I barely care. Soldier of Love is the title track off the upcoming album Soldier of Love, due out February 8, 2010.

And people thoughts Maxwell was gone for a long time? Sade has been out of the limelight for a decade! Man, it feels so great to hear her back. That voice is incapable of making bad music. Honestly, its flawless.

What!! Sade is back. Had to rate on this one. Like DJ Z said Maxwell was gone for a while but Sade been MIA for a hot minute. Funny how they both use the same producers most of the time(Stu Matthewman)also a member of Sade.

DAMN! Sade still sounds really good. The beat goes HARD on this track. I am still buggin' off the fact she sounds just as good as the 80's. I can't wait to hear more from the album. This is going to be a BIG comeback. Nice look right here...

No one makes music quite like Sade. I really couldn't picture anyone else trying to make music like this without it sounding odd or going over people's head. But everything from her voice to the army drum-beat to the lyrics just sounded right.

 I may be a 90s Baby, but I know about Sade, she (or they) is a true Legend. "Smooth Operator" used to be my jam when I was young lol.
This song is pretty ok though, I'm judging the song how well I enjoyed it, not because of her status as a musician. |

Unfortunately, I didn't listen to that much of her past work, so I can't offer any comparative analysis. But hopefully this is sufficient:
After listening to "Soldier of Love," I'm going to spend the rest of the day catching up on her old works...This is simply BEAUTIFUL. Even though dillon_68 might have given the train a bump, I'm getting it back on track! |

Absolutely blown away by how this sounds, the production subtly intricate. Absolutely different and modern sounding compared to her old stuff, yet it has this "feel" to it that reminds me of her old stuff.
Side note: they have to use this as an intro for the next Bond flick. |

I just hope that people can truly appreciate her talents in this day and age where everything is watered down and the R&B genre is so computerized and lost the rawness that has been its backbone...
I am hopeful, however, because I was blown away by Maxwell's latest LP (my pick for best album of the year - in any genre) and its subsequent acceptance by the public. He went #1 overall and has sold 836,899 albums to date... Neo-soul/R&B needs a refresher course... Sade is the second wave |

I'm a very sorry to admit that other than the mentioned "smooth operator" i haven't heard any other track by Sade!!
The beat is very good with a war feel to it and the vocals surpass very good into great!! Looks like Burmy and I have some catching up to do on some Sade!! |

I don't recall hearing any of her past work (I'm young don't hate haha) so I can't compare this to anything. I like her style though. Slow but she definitely makes it work and the percussion in the production was sick and gave the track a tight vibe. Definitely gonna look into her past work though.

WOW not many people can come back after a long time and make great music. When an artist does, thats when you know their an incredible artist. ill give this 5 stars simply because this song was flawless and because Sade makes great music.

Still doing what she does best - emotional soul singing. She has not missed a step and I really like the military beat with vibes of the mother land rhyming in. I'm so glad she's back on the scene.

I can sadly say they I've never really been familiar with Sade. I don't know where I've been (maybe under a rock), but if I've ever heard any of her songs in the past, I wouldn't have even knew or been able to tell you that I had. This song is truly my introduction to her.
On the bright side, this song sounds DOPE and she sounds like someone I should have BEEN up on and someone's music I would have had in heavy rotation. So now I gotta catch up in the game. I remember Drake said he was hoping to get a collab with her on "Thank Me Later". I really hope he does, cuz that would sound pretty dope. |
