“Timeless” is not a word I throw around lightly, but the critical and commercial success of Soldier of Love, Sade‘s first album since 2000, suggested that the UK soul vets’ sound and style hadn’t tarnished one iota in the intervening decade. With interest once again at a high, it should be no surprise that a “Best of” is on its way, complete with a few never-before-heard cuts to tempt devotees. One of four such inclusions, this official remix of Soldier opener The Moon and the Sky finds Jay-Z jumping aboard to transform the already eminently smooth jam into something as cozy and opulent as a waterbed.. with silk sheets… covered in $100 bills? Yeah, that’s a terrible analogy – point is, Sade Abu’s famously seductive vocal stylings, along with her bandmates’ understated synth-percussion backdrop, are as languidly appealing as ever, and Hova’s lost-love laments on the back are an enjoyable extra. Or have I got it twisted? In any case, new fans and longtime Sade-heads alike can find this remix and three bonus originals on “greatest hits” compilation The Ultimate Collection, coming May 3 (Those who pre-order here get access to presale tickets for Sade’s summer tour!).

C'mon, its Sade and Jay-Z? What else would you expect. The headliners' vocals and Jay's guest verse are both quality, but the band's production is the real story here.

This track oozes quality and professionalism. When both Sade and Hova are together, it has to be good, and this track doesn't disappoint. There is so much depth and emotion in this track. Jay-Z’s verse is a great compliment to Sade’s hypnotic vocals. I absolutely love every aspect of this track.

Am I listening to the same song you guys are? I actually listened to this song twice. I'm not hearing a 5 star song. i See 2 five star artists. but the song...
It's plain, boring, and definatly felt like it lacks feeling. It seems cold and disconnected from life. but shit thats just my 2 stars...oops i mean cents. |

I hated it. I don't care if its Sade & Jay-z or whoever. I felt the production was tight. thats the only positive.

Not really a fan of either artist but I do respect their body of work. I think this song was average.... I would expect a lot more from these two. The production on the track made it easy for them to make a solid song.

I dont want to give it four stars because its a Sade track. Her voice is timeless and so perfect. Personally, I was dissappointed to see Jay-Z as a guest feature, and as I suspected he just didnt fit in my eyes. I am a Hova fan and the Jigga man just didnt do it for me here.

Would be a TOTAL 5 without the Jay-Z guest lyrics. I coulda sworn I heard she turned him down. Well, she should've. I can't stand that guy. Her music is perfect ALONE...

Sade and Hova! 40's beat was sick but Jay jumping on board was just the icing on the cake.

@Djbooth Noah "40" Shebib produced this.
@MackMan that was a song off BP3. Quit hatin on the man. You know how many rappers she's turned down and yet Jay still got to work with her. She even turned down Drake and his right hand man 40 produced this. |

I'm picky especially about my Sade music but she wouldn't let it be UNLESS she felt it was right. I rock with this joint and I think the beat was hard enough for Jay to not sound out of place listening wise. Solid.
