RZA - Straight Up The Block ft. David Banner
Artist: RZA
Featuring: David Banner
Producer: RZA & David Banner
Album: Digi Snacks
Label: Wu Music/ABC Pro/Coalition
Does anyone have a clue as to what goes on in RZA’s mind? The Wu-Tang Clan chief takes a trip to another planet (scratch that, universe) with his new track, Straight Up The Block, and doesn’t plan on coming back anytime soon. Co-piloting the song is the equally eccentric David Banner, resulting in a North-South collision of bizarre originality. Banner’s tweaked-out beat falls somewhere between nauseating and terrifying, providing the perfect backdrop to RZA’s screwed vocals. The icing on the cake (or should I say coup de grâce) is his second verse, a recitation of basic French words straight out of a phrasebook. Straight Up The Block will be featured on RZA’s upcoming album Digi Snacks (out July 24), released under his unpredictable alias Bobby Digital.

I don't like the creepy RZA voice. I am not feeling the macabre-like beat; it's gloomy, and sounds like it belongs in a haunted house. I would expect a better collaboration from two well-respected producers/rappers.

These two should never get together. Ain't that illigeal? RZA that ain't you. The beat does sound like its from the haunted mansion. I feel like I'm gonna see a ghost outta nowhere. This is a Holloween joint. Not for the summer!

RZA really experimenting with this one here, Banner's beat isn't bad, it bumps but at times is a little too eerie for me. The connection of Banner's southernness and RZA's screwed up vocals makes for an unusual and odd track. Disappointing track here, especially since its gonna be on his album.

Definitely seems like a Halloween track agreed. The voice of RZA is creepy but I guess hes trying to be a different artist calling himself Bobby Digital. Another creepy ass bangin beat from David Banner and nuts verses by RZA, I gotta say its decent, although weird for RZA.

RZA what the @*#$! is wrong with you?! The first line already said it all! The hook is crap. And Banner just proves that he fell of HARD.

This is real funky! I don't think its possible to listen all the way through and assume that this record was created sober. With that said, it is unique and I will give the duo credit for that. However, I agree with earlier sentiments; for their talent levels, I thought it could have been better.

This is definitely different. I respect the creativity. RZA could have came harder but whatever.

What is up with RZA? It ain't October yet! Halloween is far awayy. Im a big RZA fan but this track is wack! The only reason im givin this 2 stars is cause of my respect for RZA. |

RZA has always came up with different flows and beats but this one is not working. With some more work on this track this could be a banger.

The reviews on this song show it no respect. After listening to this sound about 4-5 times, i really am starting to get a feeling for it. 1-2 stars my ass, this song is kinda cool and has a different vibe than most the shit out.

Bobby Digital is so random that is why this works. It's obviously not going to get any radio play but it's a nice car banger.
