Ryan Leslie - Zodiac
Artist: Ryan Leslie
Producer: Ryan Leslie
Album: Transition
Label: NextSelection
Though it took several years for Ryan Leslie to finally release his self-titled debut album, the singer/producer/songwriter extraordinaire is on the verge of doubling up just nine months later. After treating us to single You’re Not My Girl and mixshow-favorite Something That I Like, the Booth is proud to present the not-quite-yet-a-single Zodiac, a track grounded by a pounding bass line that Leslie contrasts with a near-falsetto approach, letting his vocals soar above the production while he lyrically expounds on the astrological implications of his sex life. Think of it like a more danceable version of Tyrese’s Signs of Love Making. Leslie’s upcoming album Transition is only days away – he assures us it will drop November 3. In the meantime, be sure to check out DJBooth’s exclusive preview of the album.

This whole "What's your sign" approach is lame to me. I swear I'd crack up if a girl seriously asked me that. Otherwise, this track is hot.

I don't know a single person (maybe I do and I'm just not thinking hard enough) who actually is into astrology. You?
Aside from enjoying the topic, R. Les always delivers a tasty piece of ear candy. The chorus makes this song enjoyable, along with some really light production work that allows Leslie to do his "thing." |

Highly anticipating the album from R Les, but this one wasn't too hot for me. Decent album filler, and the production was in fact pretty hot, but it didn't really have a factor that left me satisfied at the end.

No Ryan, I love your music, but this fails compared to anything from your first album.

Beat says party, but the rest says sit down. Not really feelin it, would not buy next album if it sounds like this. Zodiac sign, really? I don't even know mine.

I'm not really impressed. It does sound nice, though.
As for not knowing a single person who's into astrology, Z... I know plenty of chicks who obsess over whether someone's zodiac sign and theirs are "compatible" -___-' |

This is pretty weak stuff - for starters, it helps if you know how to sing, and that falsetto crap ain't cutting it. Add the banal, cheesy lyrics, and it lost me.

I don't know, this whole spacey type sound is really starting to be the new wave in production work these days.....i guess it works for R. Les. I give it 3 fingers!

Damn!! a month late or this would've been a perfect inclusion to the soundtrack for a recently released Bollywood movie titled "What's Your Zodiac Sign/Rashee". The film has already been referred to the Guinness Book of World Records for a female actor playing 12 different characters in a film.
But unlike those 3hr 30 min of my life wasted (actually my patience ran out after Interval and I was out of the theater!), this joint here was pretty enjoyable but I can't say this is one that I'll be playing much, but I can see this working. @that1kid13 - Yup! his productions do sound similar which eventually make his joints forgettable, in my opinion. |
