Rockwell Knuckles - Silly Human
Artist: Rockwell Knuckles
Producer: Trifeckta
Album: You're F*cking Out, I'm F*cking In
Label: Mech Industries
Though fiction tends to portray immortality as a drag, I’m inclined to think living forever couldn’t be all that bad – sure, I’d have to see everyone I know and love pass away but, on the plus side, I’d have time to… uh… watch all five seasons of The Wire? I dunno, I’m sure I’d think of something. Anyway, St. Louis up-and-comer/robotic superbeing Rockwell Knuckles fills us Silly Humans in on his firsthand experience with eternal life on his Booth debut, the latest single off his forthcoming full-length. Here, beatsmith Trifeckta‘s electronically menacing yet soulful production sets the stage for some of the most entertainingly strange rhymes I’ve heard in a minute. Whether the “escape from a robot factory” concept, not to mention Knuckles’ claims to hear voices in his head, are part of some grand sci-fi narrative or simply straight-up craziness, it’s hard to argue with the artist’s entertaining delivery and engaging flows. Like what you’re hearing? Keep it locked for release details on Rockwell’s latest project, which goes by the non-WalMart-stockable title of You’re F*cking Out, I’m F*cking In.

As we have discussed previously in the Booth, "different" can be both good and bad when describing the angle of a record. If its too different, its hard to accept and people won't listen. If its not different enough, though, its labeled as stale and boring. Thankfully, Rockwell seems to have walked the fine line and not stumbled over.

Definitely feeling how Trifeckta flipped this Rick James sample. The beat is bananas. Rockwell's got a distinct sound and surefire potential.

With an intro like that I was intrigued to say the least to give this a listen, and I have to say, I'm impressed. This was like a hardcore, funky Del record. I'll support originality whenever I can get it, and if it sounds as dope as this all the better. Rockwell always seems to have some dope concepts, the man's carving out his own lane. Props.

The Trifecta production had me when it interloped both Fat Pat & Rick James. Rockwell is all over the place lyrically but that chorus will suck you in definitely. Solid track imo.

I really like Rockwell Knuckles, as he has a lot of talent and shares a hometown with me (St. Louis stand up!). This definitely has a different vibe to it, and both the production and lyrics fit together well. Can't wait to hear more from the project!

The hook leaves a lasting impression. Think Soxx meets Bone Thugs.
