Rockie Fresh - We About It
Artist: Rockie Fresh
Producer: Cardo
Album: Supply & Demand
Label: Maybach Music/Warner Bros.
Cash, currency, cabbage, dinero, lucre, ducats… Sorry, just browsing my thesaurus for a fresh way to describe the “it” in the title of Rockie Fresh‘s latest feature, We About It. Let’s just say the man is… um… bonkers for banknotes? Yeah, pretty sure I haven’t used that one before. Though dough is the ostensible subject of this joint, the latest leak off Blog or Die‘s forthcoming compilation mixtape, you could just as easily say that the record’s all about the wordplay. With Cardo‘s laid-back synth boardwork as his canvas, the freestyle series alumnus drops verses liberally seasoned with memorable one-liners: “Got the fans wavin’, every show will make you seasick.” “I’m walkin’ on these n*ggas, they my stepbrothers.” Not to mention, Rockie clearly enjoys a little coughee with his cream – that other green stuff gets as much mileage as the kind in his wallet. In any case, those who like what they’re hearing can expect plenty more high-rolling material in the near future; keep it locked for all the latest on Supply & Demand, as well as Rockie Fresh’s forthcoming The Otherside Redux street album!

Nothing stood out to me with this song. Sounds same ol' type of beat and flow.

I am really high on Rockie as an emcee - and not just because he is from my city of Chicago, so stop it right there. With that said, these feels redundant. His flow is sharp, but the production is stale.
PS. I dig the cover art. |

Stale production just ruins his effort to make a good song out of it.

I don't mind the beat but I can take it or leave it. I think as everyone else mentioned it could've been more with fresher production. I think that limits what Rockie was able to with the track. I'd like to hear more from him in the future.

I am wondering if he meant to have such a relaxed beat. Regardless, I do like it. It has that "today was a good day" feel to it. Props to Cardo for the smooth beat and Rockie for some good lyrics.

He probably sounds like 98% of everyone who thinks they can rap in the world... That being said, 2.5...

I like Rockie Fresh, but this is not one his best. The beat isn't great, but I still think its better than everyone is saying. Some of Fresh's lyrics are pretty clever, but rapping about money is pretty unoriginal. I also think the energy is a little low. It's a pretty average track all the way around.
