For singers, much of what brings success has to do with knowing what types of songs are right for their voices: Jennifer Hudson can’t do what Whitney Houston can, but Whitney can’t do what Mariah can, and so on and so forth. We all know the tragic consequences of singers building their careers based on songs their voices can’t handle (Milli Vanilli), so needless to say, it’s extremely important. Young crooner Rocki Evans is on the ball, though, and if any rising star knows how to choose the right songs, it’s definitely him. Coming at us with a quasi-cover of Sting’s Shape of My Heart produced by Lady and a Tramp (who also produced his previous Booth feature, Fantastic), Rocki shows us that you don’t have to belt out a song to get everyone’s attention. With a smooth, daydreamy pace, Rocki ensures that we’ll (re)appreciate this ‘90s classic. You’ll find Shape of My Heart on Rocki’s upcoming album More Songs About Girls, set to drop next Tuesday right here on DJBooth.net.

The song was GREAT the first time... when Sting did it. I've heard about 7 or 8 emcees try to tackle an interpolation of this beat, all of which came across as kinda corny. As for Rocki, a singer, the end result is fair. Its hard to outdo Sting (which is why nobody should try to do it), but Evans changes things up just enough to make do with the beat and put his own stamp on it.

I don't want to ruin my street cred, but I knew this was a Sting cover from the first 6 bars, and Rocki definitely does the original justice. What can I say, the boy can sing. I'm loving everything on the Booth tonight (so far).

I could listen to this over and over... I love the soul with simplicity. I like what he brings. Its much needed. I'd knock this in the whip too with that baseline..;)

I’m really starting to enjoy what I hear so far. The vocal performance from Rocki Evans is pretty good, a certain honest charm in it throughout that just couldn’t be ignored. I like this song and it makes me want to listen to its original version as well.

Am I the only one who is getting mad El debarge vibes off this dude. He sounds like a carbon copy and best believe ppl will recognize the similarities expect El's falsetto is on point.
The cover was well done though. |

Nice remake but I didn't need another cover of this song. I'm not a fan of covers in general, I always prefer new works

This song was just alright Rocki Evans is not one of my favorite artist. Most of his songs are way to slow for me.

umm the Sting’s Shape of My Heart sampling was like a "you had me at hello" Rocki was right to use this production. Alongside his calm cool vocals he pierces through easily through my cornea and doesnt leave there. Great joint right here definatley a banger.

the sample was good, but Sting has such a unique voice, it's hard to outdo him. Plus, Craig David already did a version of this song, and no one can sing like CG. SO there is is just too much competition on this track. His voice was ok, but not enjoyable to me. 2.5 stars.
