Rock City - Survivor Anthem
Artist: Rock City
Producer: Kanye West
Album: Unreleased
Label: Rebelution Music
With his most recent single, Young Money megastar Drake earned massive Booth attention and nearly unanimous acclaim – if ever there was a hard act to follow, Find Your Love is it. Always up for a challenge, though, Virgin Islands-bred duo (and exclusive freestyle series contributors) Rock City tackle Jimmy Brooks’ smash-hit on their latest freestyle, Survivor Anthem. Here, brothers Da Spokesman and Don’t Talk Much trade the original’s female-oriented lyrics for much grittier fare, lacing Kanye West‘s 808s & Heartbreak-esque, piano-led boardwork with empathetic meditations on the struggle to survive in these tough times. Though I’d be surprised to see this revamp outdo the original where Booth ratings are concerned, the down-to-earth soul Rock City serve up here has its own, undeniable appeal – what do you think, Booth readers? Survivor Anthem isn’t set for inclusion on any forthcoming release, but those who like what they’re hearing should keep it locked for the latest on their ongoing campaign to PTFAO, as well as any other upcoming projects.

For the longest time Rock City has taken others material and turned it into much catchier affair. Its one thing to freestyle over an industry beat, keeping intact the chorus or theme of the original version. What RC does that separates them from most, however, is an ability to essentially craft a whole new song that stands on its own two. This isn't better or worse than Drake's version, its simply different (and appreciated).

RC has been a hit or a miss with me. I appreciate their work most of the times however they have their contribution of songs I don't like. This spin is very different than Drakes and is quite unique. It's not better, but it's not bad.

Don't really know what to think about this. Liking the vocals on this. Rock City makes this a whole different song. Agree with DJ Z on that its not better or worse.

Definitely different than Jimmy's record but like Z said I can't say it's better or worse. |

I was really feeling Drake's version and while this isn't in anyway similar, it still manages to come close to the same outcome that "Find Your Love" resulted in for me, which was highly appreciated. Hook was the best part of the entire track. Rock City's vocals are always a big plus. 3.5

This definitely has more purpose than Drake's record, I would love to see what they could do with this If Drake didn't flow on it first. I think they killed it, they made the track feel so much fuller.

they need to stop with these mixtapes and songs over other people's songs and start create their own undeniable original BANGERS and put out the album! Or I am going to stop check on them...its getting boring...

I'm sure we'll hear three thousands freestyles over this record, and they won't be nearly as good as the Rock City jam. Can't say I was in love with this one - the verses feel a little forced - but Rock City always know what they're doing in the studio. Quality.

I've enjoyed all of their prior freestyles featured on DJBooth, but I can't say the same for this one.
The duo definitely has the talent to take the industry by storm. But so many freestyles/mixtape joints after the duo have released, I still can't say that they've done enough to make me want to cop an album. And as of late, I too have found myself slowly drifting away to "its getting boring"... When will we find out that Rock City is more fire than smoke? |

The Rock City duo add some Virgin Island flavor to Drake's latest single.
Those Virgin Island Boys deliver a touching remix over Drake’s latest single “Find Your Love”. This is nice right here. |

i doubt there are many people who can successfully outdo drake on this beat but RC give it all theyve got, especially on the hook which i really liked. the carribbean feel works there but not so much in the verses which drake does do. 3.5 but ill round down

I'm sorry, but sometimes less is more. That's the case with these guys. Less Freestyles. More Original songs. These dudes have too much talent, especially when it comes to catchy hooks, to continue to promote themselves over recycled beats. New management might be in order.

Crazy how these guys don't have an official album out yet with the quality they continue to put out. I have a feeling that's going to change very soon however.
