This might seem totally gross to those who don’t share my compulsion, but I’ll admit it: whenever I’m served, say, roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, and corn, my first instinct is to combine them into one delicious pile a la KFC’s Famous Bowls—they’re meant to be enjoyed together, so why not enjoy them mixed together? Though it’s up for debate whether hip-hop, R&B, and metal are quite so compatible with one another (and previous attempts at mixing the three may have left a bad taste in listeners’ mouths) Atlanta-based up-and-comer Rocboi, believes that the combo can be done and done well. Judging by the Booth newcomer’s latest single, Cutting Away, he seems to be onto something—angsty, alt-rock-style lyrics crooned soulfully over synth arpeggios and clicking percussion (courtesy of Juggernaut Productions beatsmith IKON) may be strange in concept, but the finished product proves much greater than the sum of its parts.  If this single leaves you hungry for more of Rocboi’s “HOOD.METAL.R&B” jams, you can find what you’re craving on his Chief Rocka LP, released in May and available now.

The chances that an artist could could successfully incorporate "hood," "metal," and "R&B" sounds all into their material are slim to none. Could it be done? Yes, but with lots of skill and little to no corniness. On "Cutting Away" I don't really hear a large metal influence, but enough of a hood-drawn R&B/pop appeal to broaden the audience for this club-ready jam.

Rocboi doesn't have a GREAT voice, but he pulls this off nicely.

I can hear a metal guitar in the background very faintly so i guess thats where the metal part comes from!!
Rocboi's voice sounds really good though and i'm glad he didnt go the mainstream safe route and hop on the Auto-tune bullsh*t!!!!
I'm gonna call this one a banger!!!!

Sorry man, song is too simple, no kick, no punch... too basic! I've heard better, waste of talent. Come with something unique, something better. Song is okay.. but it's kinda monotone.. Garbage.. song flatlines through out!

It's very surprising that anyone has truly listened to the content meaning "lyrics" to this material. It's focusing on loss, death, suicide and family. This is something R&B hasn't had and mainstream America needs to hear. Cutting Away is deep and dark on subject matter but it has emotion and truth. Try listening folks.

i thought it was a waste of my time and i should go find rocboi and scream in his ear(give up old man)i thought the beat was nothing unique, the voice hurt my ears(and i listen to heavy metal)its all crap and nothing new to the world wide music scene.the sad part is little white girls might like it,so there is rock boys audience so good luck to the old guy that makes teenybopper music!lol I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHO TOLD THIS MAN THAT HIS MUSIC WAS A GOOD IDEAL?LMAO
