Let’s be real. You saw that Robin Thicke had a new track called Shakin It for Daddy featuring Nicki Minaj and you got a little nervous. (Come on, I can’t be the only one). Would this be an almost assuredly disastrous attempt by Thicke at a stripper anthem? Some sort of weird fantasy role play thing between him and Minaj? Unfortunately, it only took twenty seconds before some of my fears were confirmed. While Thicke is known for his candlelight crooning, here he steals a page out of the Usher playbook, softly asking his special lady friends to drop it to the floor while an ass-shaking beat from Polow da Don bumps in the background and Nicki Minaj (a.k.a. the femcee’s greatest hope) is her usual lyrically schizophrenic self on a full two verses. Shakin It for Daddy’s not a bad track in and of itself, but Thicke just doesn’t have the swagger to pull it off. Will his upcoming album Sex Therapy feature even more misguided strip club cuts? We’ll find out on December 8.

Robin Thicke: Kinda uninspired. Prefer his slower vibe (like you'll hear on "Meiple" ft. Jay-Z)
Ester Dean (yes, she did the background vocals): I know she can come stronger. She needs to stop doing that radio-filler material...she is capable of lots more! Nicki Minaj: Wow! She truly is the femcees' last hope (aside from maybe RAtheMC). Just listen to that line: "You was sleeping on me, thinkin' it was slumber time, Now I'm a trending topic lil' mama, number sign, Wanna play? Meet me at the fumble line, Cuz I'm a ninja, COWABUNGA TIME!" Polow da Don: BANGER of a beat! Overall...Nicki & Polow's beat takes this to a banger (without them it'd be a 3 at most). I wasn't feelin much other than the beat here. Polow's production seems well suited for the clubs but I can't say I'm a fan of the rest of the track. Nicki was only OK but I've never really dug her music. Thicke was decent but I know he's better than this. I probably won't ever listen to this again.

This is interesting. I disliked Robin Thicke's earlier over-hyped songs, but this was nice (the pace and tone...a good look for Mr. Thicke).

Eh, I think they tried too hard one this one. I love the beat and Nicki's verses, but this is just plain boring after a while. While not a 5 star, its still a BANGER!

Not feeling this either. He just sounds outta place and awkward. Never was a fan of Nicki, is it me or does she just sound like a weird version of Lil Kim.
The best part of the song was ironically Ester Dean whos background vocals sounded good with Robin's voice(they should do a song together) and Polow's beat was hot. Maybe because it's Ester and Polow that it kinda rewinded me of Drop it Low. Now that I think of it, Chris would of sounded dope if this was his song. |

Ohhhhhh no!!!! I completely agree with Nathan S. I wish Robin Thicke would get back to "Sweetest Love" style songs. Hopefully Jay-Z can set him straight. Robin Thicke is the man, but this is not him. Nicki Minaj dropped the ballin like spalding line so I quit paying attention to her.

It is interesting to hear him get versatile with his sound, but this is nothing except a failed attempt to make an overplayed slang fashionable (again) but doesn't work despite a pounding beat by Polow cos this just doesn't go with Thicke's image. He even pulled a few Trey-like notes and his voice on verses sounded like The-Dream. Nah not cutting.
Nicki blazes the mic with witty word play and nice punchlines tho! ... 1.5 |

out of respect for polow I wont give this a 1 star. Nicki is the hottest female in the game right now until Shawnna gets her act together. Other than that I agree with the others that this isnt Robin Thicke style. If he wants to branch out thats cool but this is one artist that needs to stay in his lane.

Is this Thicke? Talkin' bout a change of style??? I don't know if I'm feelin' it. When I stop thinking about Robin Thicke, the song is easier to listen to. Dayum this is way different from his usual swag and Nicki had 1 too many verses for me. I'm going to let it simmer, I think it will eventually grow on me.

I agree that this rated low mainly because of Robin Thicke. This track is not his style at all. Would've sounded better with someone else. Nicki Minaj, however, had a great outing on this track. I believe she saved the song from being pretty bad. Her swagger kinda took over the song. The more Minaj the better!
