Robin Thicke - Meiplé (Me I Play)
Artist: Robin Thicke
Featuring: Jay-Z
Producer: Pro-Jay and Robin Thicke (co-produced by Jeff Bhasker)
Album: Sex Therapy
Label: Star Trak/Interscope
Robin Thicke doesn’t usually try to hide what his songs are about (aka his last cut Shakin It for Daddy) and his new song, Meiplé (Me I Play), is no different. From the first line, he makes it clear that this song is about sex, singing “I know you wanna (f**k)…” That line sets the tone for the song, a tone that producers Pro-Jay and Thicke himself emphasize with a bubbly, 80’s-retro sounding beat that finds Thicke singing about the spoils of high class life: San Trope, The Ritz, alcohol, Chanel and the French countryside. The singer is cool and confident, taking control of the beat throughout the track, a sensual vocal style that’s perfectly contrasted by a verse from guest artist Jay-Z, who sounds totally comfortable (as we’ve come to hear) rapping about high society, Monte Carlo and having enough money to buy anything. And of course, no Hova verse is complete without a Beyoncé name drop. Meiplé is a potential new single off Sex Therapy, which is scheduled to hit stores on December 15.

Me I Play is so more simple than making up words lol. What is this? This is 1.5 star but better than the song with nicki. wat is robin doin? this must be the "experimental" alubm that artists who are good enuff attempt. fail.

I'm really not digging Robin's recent stuff. I just can't get with this. It is boring and uncreative (idk if that's a word or not). Jay-Z brings this to a 2. That's sad.

4 stars again-but this time, a much better showing from Robin-the beat's more his cup of tea too. Remember, yesterday's was because of Nicki and Polow-this one's because of EVERYBODY INVOLVED. Before rap was invented, the pimps & players listened to this type of music: lounge-soul. Way to balance his new Parental Advisory style with the classic Robin Thicke-THAT'S how you make it work!
Side note: Pretty clever how Hov refers to Bey as the "black Brigitte Bardot"...Anybody else notice the similarities between them? |

Its a decent track, though its nothing to get excited about. Jigga's verse was ok, Thicke's vocals were as good as expected, though the production is good in parts but sucks in others. Im not a fan of the hook.

This is an experimental side for Thicke that I dig. Jay or no Jay, this track is very grown and sexy. They'd obviously have to do a little work on the edit to get this ready for radio play, but overall it has hit potential.

Ehhh, not feelin it. Robin was awkward over the whole song. Although Jay is my favorite rapper, I wasn't feelin this verse. "The All-Time Heavyweight Champion of Flowers" took a loss here. What a disappointment...

Sounds like a song to advertise a casino or something. Robon was in no way interesting, the only thing that kept me listening was Jay-z. This song only deserves a 2 though. Not likin it.

Man, what is up with Robin? The former soul man has gotten all booty focused, and apparently willing to sing like a second rate lounge singer. This is terrible, not even a Jay verse can save it. I am not optimistic about Sex Therapy's chances.

@1_O-TYME_1: "this guy" is a great singer man! I'm givin this 2 stars and I know it. Check his previous songs on the booth (MAGIC). It'd be more fair to say you don't stand his music :p
This song is weird like anything coming lately from Thicke. He's barely singing, just playin around, obscenely driven... :s Percussion and bassline play a major role here. If you like, good, but if you don't, this will sound trashy. This whole project is risky. Not pleasant, period. You'd think with such a hot wife, Thicke would have batter inspiration! :p |

I like this. I didn't care for this track at first, but once it grew on me, it became very difficult to get
the beat/rhythm unstuck from my head. At the very least its based off different sounding sh!t. 3.5 and I'll round up. |

Dear Robin Thicke,
Dont do this to yourself. I think you trying to get an more urban audience but these last 2 tracks are not you. Go back to doin what you do and you'll be fine. Dear Jay Z, You know better than this. |

Jay's verse was bananas and Robin was smooth asidunnowut. To give this anything less than 4 stars is a travesty. I'm doing 5 to balance out all the 12 year olds that don't get it
