Robin Thicke - It's in the Mornin'
Artist: Robin Thicke
Featuring: Snoop Dogg
Producer: Teddy Riley
Album: Sex Therapy
Label: Star Trak/Interscope
Robin Thicke’s new track It’s in the Mornin’ is about f**king. What did you expect? After all, the album’s titled Sex Therapy. Keeping in line with previous releases Meiple and Shakin It for Daddy, It’s in the Morning is a smoothly produced cut by r&b legend Teddy Riley that keeps its focus strictly between the sheets, especially in the morning hours. For his part Thicke is his usual falsetto self, though the track’s occasionally laugh out loud lines show that he might have picked up a thing or two lyrically from R. Kelly when working on Pregnant: “Let me put some cream in your coffee” is a hilarious line considering Thicke’s wife is black. Putting the proverbial cherry on this sexually charged sundae is Snoop Dogg, who in trademark fashion delivers a supremely laid-back flow guaranteed to set the mood. It’s in the Mornin’ isn’t officially a single off Sex Therapy (out now), but it probably should be. Does the Booth agree?

This needs to be chosen as a single. I will start calling Thicke's A&R (if he has one - there are not many good ones left these days) if it is not - repeatedly. Riley's production is baby-making worthy, Thicke doesn't force any of his vocals, and Snoop's laid-back guest verse was set perfectly.
4.5 (rounded down to prevent ridicule) |

This song is chill...!
It should probably become a single, nothing else on his album besides Shakin It For Daddy, Make You Love Me, and Mieple are good enough |

Finally Robin Thicke sounds comfortable enough to sing like himself other than those forced vocals on sex therapy!!
Snoop Dogg always sounds good over these R&B beats!! Ever heard Keith Sweats track with Snoop a while back "come get with me" that is a classic track imo and this is slightly below it so it's a banger!! |

FAR better than his past two releases. Thicke sounded good (like Z said, he didn't force it) and Snoop was a perfect candidate for this track. I really liked that loop in the production as well. Helps set the mood. Nice song!

I know folks are going to jump all over me for this, (especially apparently from joshL) but Thicke just doesn't really do it for me. I feel like he always does the same, super breathy vocal thing, he's got absolutely no range.
With that said, there's no doubt that his super-light vocals work perfectly here, and let's not sleep on that slinky beat (Teddy Riley's the man). Thicke might not even crack my Top 10 male singers list, but this track might end up being one of my top 10 r&b songs of the year. All told, I'll have to go with a four here. Maybe more like a 3.75, but it deserves better than a three. |

Oh, and since I brought it up, off the top of my head and in no particular order, my favorite male singers working right now are Anthony Hamilton, R. Kelly, Raphael Saadiq, The-Dream and, I know I'm cheating here since he's not making music, but he is still alive, D'Angelo. That's by no means an official list, just stream of consciousness.

The Ultimate Morning Sex Anthem of '09. It goes harder than cheese grits and bacon in the AM.
I'm a fan Of Teddy Riley, but this right here and his collaborative effort with Scoop DeVille on Snoop's "Different Languages" blew my mind. As for album, Robin tried to incorporate too many people and sound that is not in his lane of music. He has a few songs that are good but overall its not that good and comes off too inconsistent. |

@TheBayToLA Dope Sam Flores avatar. I'm staring at a huge Flores print hanging on my wall right now, he's incredible.
Sorry for the detour, back to the music... |

This entire CD bangs... I can only speculate that his recent music is why he and his wife are expecting. Anytime you do a "nasty" song you got to get Snoop D.O.(double G) in on the mix. It's a rule.

When I heard Sex Therapy was getting the Parental Advisory sticker, I was scared that we'd lose the the natural feeling we've come to expect from him-Aside from a few tracks (I'm looking at you, Shakin' It For Daddy) my fears have proven to be highly exaggerated. It's in the Mornin' is one of these tracks (coulda used another Thicke verse though)
Personally, if it were up to me, I'd either have the second single be this, "2 Luv Birds," or "Million Dollar Baby" (MDB would still be my priority-what Nathan and Z have for Alicia, I have for Jazmine) |

Copped his new album and throughly enjoyed it. Incredibly smooth vocals and beats and just a great album to chill to, ever since he was on shooter I've been checkin his tracks out and this album (including this song) is full of bangers.
