After releasing his independent debut album, Better Believe Me, this past October, Mississippi native Rob Gold (with the help of Grand Hustle beatmaker Khao and CTE beatmaker T.A.) hopes to make a splash this summer with his impending follow-up. Buying into Juicy J‘s “a successful radio single needs to attract a female audience” philosophy, Rob takes his biggest shot at pop success yet with the made-for-radio single Summer Girl. Producer T.A. gets behind the boards for mass-appeal production, as feature artist Reggie Jamz provides the all-important R&B hook. Put it all together with some aggressive national promotion and you have the recipe for Summer Girl success.
Reggie Jamz sounds like if he would've used the vocoder, he would've sounded perfect, but he decided to go all natural, so I can respect that. I don't really like the production. I like the instrumentation used, but the arrangement of it is very confusing. Rob Gold's flow is decent. I've heard way better rappers, so I won't patronize this guy.
This track is not quite there yet in capturing the essence of a "summer girl" in a song. I would have done a lot more with the beat, maybe incorporated a quicker melody or placed more emphasis on the tropical effects. The b-section could use some tweaking too, the hook lingers toward the end.
I gotta commend dude for not using the voice box on this. I think this beat would have been a good summer track minus that annoying drum! It just sounds off to me. That @*#$! is killin me!
I hear a latin/island undertone in this track. Burmy is right, if you want to target the female population give 'em a blazing beat with a catchy hook. I think this song should hit the spot.
This one might have an uphill climb to become a true summer banger, but, Rob does have some talent... jesavail, you stole my comment about an undercurrent of island flavor! I should delete your comment, haha.
This song is cool. Catch beat, and something nice to wind to. The production isn't bad. Nothing spectacular - it sounds like something thats been done again and again, but I guess, it keeps working so why not. I'll jam to it.
