Rihanna was a superstar in her own right, but the Chris Brown assault made her perhaps the most watched young woman on the planet. So when Rihanna drops a new single, and it’s off a mysterious upcoming album, and it was produced by Ne-Yo, and it’s accompanied by what can only be described as porn-esque photo, well, let’s just say I’m surprised the Internet didn’t explode today. Flashing lights aside, Russian Roulette is a sparse, dark track that explodes into a cinematic chorus, a task Rihanna doesn’t sound completely up to, especially without a memorable hook. In other words, Russian Roulette’s momentum alone will likely make it a hit, but I’m not convinced it’s actually that good of a track. By the way, I’ve got money that says her new album Rated R outsells Chris Brown’s next project, whatever that is. Revenge is a dish best served on the Billboard charts. Keep it locked to DJBooth for all the latest from the unbelievably famous Rihanna.

Even though this dropped today, I've already had a chance to let it grow on me with the instant radio play already. I wasn't expecting anything like this for her comeback, but I'm not too mad at it. I'm not too in love with the song itself, but I gotta look at the big picture. The topic level is intense, and her vocals actually sounded really well on here, not to mention this has been marketed very well. Ne-Yo wrote a great song although it's not a personal favorite of mine.

I would of rathered if she came back with a club banger (along the lines of S.O.S or Pon Da Replay), though this is still a pretty tight track. Her vocals are great & the lyrics by Ne-Yo are fair intense. Production is also solid.

3.5

I had heard she was taking a darker path with her music, but dang, this is crazy dark. I'm really liking this, especially the production. The lyrics were grade A, and so were her vocals. Can you imagine what the video to this is going to be like?! Rihanna Classic, Dj Booth Banger!

It's a nice track...and i like the whole vibe but I've never really been a fan of the slow Rihanna tracks.

I hope the next track will be an uptempo club banger...but still...this will dominate the charts soon

song is too big for her thin & flat vocals. but she did surprisingly "good" anyway. soon on the news: some retard teenage girl played russian roulette and died. 4 stars. but 90% off of that rating go to Chuck Harmony & Ne-Yo tho!

This horribly lost to "I Can Transform Ya" on WQOK's "Battle of the Beats" today, but I actually don't think its that bad of a song. Not what I was expecting, but this is different, in a good way. I like it, it took a couple listens, but I like it.

This is going straight to the top of the charts and stying there for awhile. One of those songs that gets better with every listen and I have already listened to it about 20 times today lol

I said this on Twitter on Tuesday morning, so let me repeat myself: Good song, just not good enough for a single. I prefer Rihanna's uptempo cuts. Thoughts?

The lyrics made this song, musically it got a bit boring. This track may top charts and move major units, but it’s not that good of a lead-single. Solid three stars for NeYo's excellent songwriting skills. Overall, this song is the (music) business. A definite winner.

Its decent, it seems to me that Rihanna has stepped her vocal game up a little bit. Its a bit too slow for me, it dont think it has enough OOMPH to make it a massive hit. However as Nathan said the hype behind this track will probably make it a hit anyway. 3 starsss

the production instantly hooked me in. so hot and raunchy in its own right. the picture looks so spooky. and then she started singing, and it took a half step down. so 3.5 stars.

zzz snoozefest she deliberately drags the lyrics no variation to each verse monotonal no emotional attachment at all. and in the context of what has happened to her, this song and the album cover (wtf?) exemplifies that she IS no victim just a willing participant in what happened in the past. instead of actually bringing some dignity and intelligence to the issue of domestic violence, what does she resort to? some gun shots, some lame wimpering and a song about pulling the trigger? womp womp

I think she sounds really good. It's nice to hear her on a mellow song. However, it's not a single, at least it shouldn't be. It would be a quality album track as it's a grower. Still as previously stated it will be number 1 cos she's so, so famous...

man the difference in opinions are astounding...I actually think this is one of her best tracks. That I've actually listened too on repeat without issues. If you analyze the constructions of the entire song you can tell it was put together thoughtfully and melodically
