Rihanna isn’t the only girl in the world with millions of adoring fans who follow her every move, but the Caribbean queen
princess of r&b-pop is certainly part of an elite few. After all, Ryan Seacrest doesn’t premiere just anyone’s new single. For those of you (including me) who don’t tune into Señor Seacrest’s morning radio show, let’s play catch-up. Coming off the success of her enormously successful Rated R album, Ri Ri is beginning her next campaign with new single Only Girl (In the World), a heavily electronic record that leaves her dark rock experiments like Russian Roulette far behind in favor of the kind of bouncing, purely club joints every major artists seems to favor now (see Akon’s Take a Chance). With production team Stargate fulfilling dance demands perfectly on the beat and Rihanna delivering a relatively unremarkable but instantly catchy performance, this one has hit written all over it. While it’s far too early for Rihanna’s new album Loud to receive a release date, you can expect buzz to build daily until that fateful day, and for DJBooth to keep you posted on all the details.

It's like I said with Akon. It's time to start accepting this type of music as the norm. While I think this stands above some of the other crap out there, this isn't Rihanna's best. Her last album grew on me tremondosly. So much in fact that I named it pop album of the year. She is saying that this next album is her best yet. We'll see.

I agree with Dj Z, dance music is dominant today in the music industry, so it didn't come as a surprise that pop music is going this way. This is a club hit from textbook, but nothing more.

I don't think I should really be surprised by this, actually. D-Guetta has revolutionised pop music lately. I suppose the new club joints in the evolution of music works out now.
Very average track for RIRi's standards though; doesn't broadcast her vocals as much as something like "Unfaithful" or "Take a Bow" would. |

Okay so this may have just made this club dance pop music thing officially the blueprint for radio success and the future of pop music as a result. Like it was always going to happen but Rihanna doing it makes it clear! I wonder what B will be doing on her next album??
The problem is with this watered down style of house music is a) it's not too creative, b) it all sounds the same, c) when songs like these become successful they are EVERYWHERE no matter how good or bad they are. Luckily, this isn't too bad, a fair effort from both Rihanna and Stargate. Rihanna won't stop, she's a hit machine! |

@ multiple people who think this song is game changing. I love this song but, this is what Europe has been trying to push down our throats forever! We as Americans are so late to the "dance" so to speak. Embrace the 'world music' that we are just opening ourselves to! Glad we're finally catching up!
