Rihanna - Hard
Artist: Rihanna
Featuring: Young Jeezy
Producer: The-Dream and Tricky Stewart
Album: Rated R
Label: Def Jam/IDJMG
Rihanna caused quite the commotion with her last single Russian Roulette (mostly because of its quasi-porn picture), but despite all the attention Roulette hasn’t exactly blazed up the charts. Undaunted, Rihanna’s back to try again with the aptly-named Hard, a track that finds the usually sugar sweet Rihanna taking a much more street-oriented approach. Emphasizing the new gritty side of Rihanna is atypically somber production work from the usually bouncing production duo of The-Dream and Tricky Stewart - Umbrella this is not - and an appropriately dark verse from the gravel-voiced Young Jeezy. But the real story here is Rihanna, who officially kills any memory of the once innocent young girl she once was with a obscenity-laced performance. Ironically, Hard will likely be too hard to become a mainstream radio smash, but I have to give it up to Rihanna, it sounds like she’s really taking some risks on her upcoming album Rated R, due out Nov. 23.

I thought the "yeah's" at the beginning were annoying but once the song gets rolling, I have no complaints. I like the direction she is taking. The production is strong (of course) and her vocals sounded in sync with it. Jeezy came pretty "hard" too. This is a very solid track.

This is more like it. All around enjoyable record. Unlike Nathan, I think this CAN find a home at radio. If it doesn't, expect that 11/23 release date to move. Yeaaaaaaah (love the ad libs).

I love the new style Rihanna has right now, where it's like she dosen't give a F**k. From beginning to end, the song's dope all the way through and Jeezy sound perfect over it.
"Does that make me Louie man?" I guess that was a shot at Gucci. |

Ok, Z, what do you want to put down on it? I'm really digging this, it's super adventurous for both Rihanna and Dream, but there's no way it becomes a smash on radio. It's too left of center for the programmers. It will get played, but not heavily. Care to put a wager down?

yo yo i agree w/booth members in that this is a great idea to take a new "i dont give a fu*k" direction here. Its a good time for her to show her gritty side, especially after C-Breezy incident.
Rihanna,Jeezy,Tricky and Dream... great collabo makes for a great song. im glad she gettin Rated R in this bi*ch. btw, im w/"Z" in that this will go "Hard" at radio. |

I'm not getting into this bet haha, it's too early to tell for me. She released Russian Roulette as a single on iTunes and like Nathan said it hasn't gotten up the charts yet.

i dont want to like it, but its not bad... I have never been a huge ri ri fan... Jeezy is straight grimey on this record... and the production is hard as hell from the usually up beat dream and trickey tandem... its hard not to like it

I invest my money in the hands of @Nathan. So, Z, what do you want to put down on it?
Now I don't expect a SMASH hit from every other artist, but there are a certain few artists (Akon, 50 Cent, Snoop, to name a few) from which I do expect a Smash Hit, and Rihanna is one of them as well cos she Global baby! Though I'm liking her a glam grunge kind of look and "I don't give a fcuk" attitude in music, and this joint is kinda cool, beat bangs and lately I've been liking Jeezy's lyrical skills on mic, but still, smash hit this is not, and more of a 'go in one ear and out the other.' Rotation-Stuff. |

Complete FIRE! This song is a definite banger. I love the beat - which is something different from Tricky and the-Dream - and I love the swagger Rihanna sings with. I like the "Umbrella" reference, with "That Rihanna rain don't let up".
Young Jeezy absolutely killed it. Hopefully, Rihanna's camp chooses this as the second single. It would be a shame to let this song go to waste! I'm liking this new, riskier Rihanna. She's definitely showing her growth as an artist. I think people should realise she isn't trying to create "Good Girl Gone Bad, Pt. 2", and appreciate she's out there doing something different. "Rated R" is shaping up to be quite a dynamic offering from Rihanna. |

I am expecting a lot from this Rihanna album but this right here is just average. This can go into rotation but something is definitely missing from the track. The Beat is cool, and Rihanna sounds good on it too, but it just sounds average and boring.

I think The-Dream and Tricky did a good work with the production, but Rihanna annoyes me on this song. The overall song is very energetic and catchy, but I don't the hook "ie ie ie" "oh oh oh"! Jeezy killed it! There are some features I don't like, but I think this track will bang (not thanx to Rihanna, though)

As big of a "Tricky & Dream" fan as I am, this is average. As a matter of fact, I liked "Russian Roulette" a heck of a lot better. Even "Wait Your Turn" is better than this. Still a banger though.

the starting where she says "yeah" is annoying, her verses are pretty weak and the hook is quite annoying as well. hope to god that this doesnt somehow make it 2 the radio. jeezy's verse is okay at best, by no means one of his best, but it's okay and that's the only reason i didnt give this a rating of "garbage". its OK

Lol Chill w/ the provocative pictures Rihanna (Sadomasochist on the low). As for the song, it's alright. It could have been better, if Rihanna strayed away from the art of Rappin' and stuck to the customary.
